Annoying pay wall; but from what I gather- that whole medical district looks to be a major economic driver for the city.

Amazon facility in Elmwood

Amazon's started with fill and drainage work on its new facility in Elmwood, apparently spending $100,000 on landscaping around it: https://www.fox8live.com/2024/09/06/...ferson-parish/

Thrown in at the end is an update on the retail/condo development where the old K-Mart was in the shopping area. They should be moving forward with rezoning requests "in the next couple of weeks," and construction should start soon after. I did make a joke earlier about JP not liking urbanism, but it's been nice to see Elmwood rethinking the strip mall model and going for more of a faux urban center development. Already the addition of landscaping and pedestrian pathways over there has made it feel a lot more accessible and less like an enormous slab of concrete.

If you download the Nola.com app on your phone, you access all of their articles without a pay wall. It's hard to see pictures in the articles sometimes from your phone (some don't allow you to zoom in) but it's better than nothing

Just in the past few months I've been noticing same day availability on Amazon so I'm personally looking forward to this happening and expanding that.

Gotta say, the Mardi Gras theming in Harrah's was always tacky. The Caesars rebranding and renovation definitely makes it feel like an up-to-date casino in Vegas.

We're getting a huge new Bally's casino here in Chicago and I'm worried they will cheap out on the interiors, Bally's to me has a similar bottom-feeder vibe as Harrah's. Ugh.

Ballys doesnt have the money to go expensive, they barely have enough to go cheap, lol, thats why they arent doing anything with the tropicana site in Las Vegas other than clearing the land.

with Caesars in New Orleans, yes it looks nice but behind the walls, I know 100% that corners were cut, one being the restroom by the S.Peters entrance, its closed more than it is open for plumbing issues backing up and flooding the restroom

The biggest disappointment is the scrapping of the rooftop pool. If I’m staying at a Nobu hotel, I’m expecting a resort style pool.

Topgolf and Five O Fore Update: https://www.nola.com/news/business/n...rce=the-latest

"The Ernest N. Morial Convention Center agreed to guarantee a multi-million-dollar loan to help kickstart construction of the $40 million Topgolf complex planned for the new River District neighborhood as it races against its driving-range rival Five O Fore golf to open."

"Last month, during a meeting of the New Orleans Exhibition Hall Authority board, the Convention Center's lawyer, David Phelps, said that the River District development consortium — known as River District Neighborhood Investors, or RDNI — needed the state-run entity to guarantee a $6.8 million loan so it could meet its obligation to secure initial construction financing for Topgolf. Red River Bank wouldn't lend without the state entity's guarantee, which would mean the Topgolf project would remain on hold, according to Phelps. "RDNI has represented to us that if we're unwilling to sign this agreement, then they're not going to be able to get a loan which means Topgolf would not be able to move forward," he said. The Convention Center's board unanimously approved the loan guarantee, which obligates it to assume the loan if a lawsuit brought by David Baird, the owner of Le Citron Bistro on Religious Street, is successful in nullifying the lease. Baird sued the Convention Center in December, alleging that Topgolf's lease was a "sweetheart deal" that violated the Louisiana state constitution because it was a "gratuitous donation" by a state entity."

it is worth nothing they still built the space for it to be added later on so its still likely to happen at some point. the raw space for mechanicals and other elements including the elevator lobby and space to build out a bar as well . at least thats what it shows in the plans with the city

New Orleans golf rivals race to open as Convention Center backs Topgolf

https://www.nola.com/news/business/n...iness-featured

The Ernest N. Morial Convention Center agreed to guarantee a multi-million-dollar loan to help kickstart construction of the $40 million Topgolf complex planned for the new River District neighborhood as it races against its driving-range rival Five O Fore golf to open.

Topgolf, which combines high-tech driving ranges with bars, restaurants and other amusements, was expected to be the first major project completed in the $1 billion River District, with the Dallas-based chain hoping to have the 67,000-square-foot venue ready by the end of this year, before New Orleans hosts Super Bowl LIX in February.
