Bourque Road in Dieppe Closed July 30 and 31. News 91.9 is reporting that this for the installation of sanitary sewer services for two new buildings.

Do we have anything on two new buildings on Bourque between Clarence-Cormier Street and Melanson Road?

There are two apartment buildings under construction now right at the corner of Bourque/Melanson, but you would think this would have been done before construction began, no? Not sure how these systems work.

They have put up a new mini tower crane on the lot under construction on the NE corner of the Dieppe Blvd/Melanson Rd roundabout.

There are now cranes up on both the NE and SE corners of this intersection.

I'm pretty sure they've started work on the Dieppe Blvd extension (at least the underground services).

Building in Millidgeville here in SJ was up and enclosed before they closed part of the street to connect water and sewer so maybe after is normal.

Opening of the new Dieppe Blvd Superstore is apparently delayed until after Labour Day.

On the block behind Horizon Place there are only two remaining houses that are still standing and both have been for sale for awhile now. The rest have long been torn down. I believe there was a plan by Killam at one time to consolidate all of these properties for extra parking for Horizon Place, but these last 2 properties seem to be just sitting there with nobody jumping at them. Am I missing something? This feels like prime downtown location for a larger development and it seems a bit odd that with Dieppe buzzing with activity, this block seems to be just sitting there.

I can't imagine why Horizon Place needs more parking. They have a three level internal garage!

I agree that this area seems primed for high intensity development. I have also wondered WTF is going on.

Nice drone shot by our friends at Infinity Aerials of the Dieppe Blvd/Melanson Road neighbourhood.

Four large developments under construction within spitting distance of one another.

Things will look a whole lot different in a couple of years.

As per the above:

Atlantic Superstore opens in growing section of Dieppe
Atlantic Superstores in N.B. roll out new branding consistent with Loblaw stores across Canada

The new store has approximately 45,000 square feet of floor space, with wide aisles, bilingual signage, full-service and self-service checkouts and a mobile phone shop. It does not have a pharmacy, clothing section or housewares like dishes and small appliances. One of the features is a large kitchen section, where staff prepare many types of take-home meals like pizza, chicken, Chinese-style meals and traditional Acadian foods. The store also has a “multicultural aisle” with various types of international foods, and an expanded selection of fresh and frozen seafoods.

Infinity Aerials photo of the new Superstore plaza on Dieppe Blvd.

There will be a small plaza with several CRUs built adjacent to the Superstore. There will also be a larger CRU build on that patch of dirt next to the Shoppers Drug Mart. This will likely have a drive-thru. Current rumours are that this may be a Starbucks.

Celebratory char siu anyone?

With a 5-4 vote, Dieppe gave approval for construction of this 5-storey apartment building on Amirault, much to the dismay of Lavoie street NIMBYs.

I find it a little concerning that the vote was split, I'd expect stronger leadership in this part of NB especially during a housing crisis, but at least it went through.

A victory against NIMBYism, but, only by the thinnest of margins.

- Dieppe PAC voted against the necessary rezoning.
- Dieppe city council chose to ignore the PAC advice, but only by a 5-4 margin, with the deciding vote cast by Mayor Lapierre.

This could easily have gone the other way...........

I wonder if there will be any repercussions for Lapierre in the next civic election? Is he running again???

I don't see it having any meaningful impact whatsoever if he does run again. Dieppers generally take pride in the city's growth and not being stuck to its rural past.

The opposition to this was less than 0.5% of the city's population, and from the sounds of it most were opposed purely because an apartment building would be partially visible from their homes located steps from a major street and commercial area. Oh the humanity.

Using a "save the trees" narrative as the basis of their opposition was clearly disingenuous in many cases; where were these same people when this was (and is) happening on a larger scale elsewhere in the community?

Honestly I’m not surprised by the split. I agree with the approval and it’s going to be a nice addition. The location being right next to the cemetery, plus the trees etc. are things that could be a valid question to be asked. As the cemetery could have purchased the land and used it for more plots, that didn’t happen though, so it was prime location to build. I’m rambling, but I am just not surprised by the split, it’s just one of those pieces or land that sometimes can divide people.
