Could anyone provide an update to the new airport terminal in Thompson? I know that the building is coming along and the civil works will be starting soon. But I can't find anything on the internet. It is a substantial upgrade, which I think should be operational by the end of next summer.

Steinbach

362 & 366 Main St

Conditional Use for residential approved unanimously by council

Variance to allow height of up to 78ft & 6 storeys approved unanimously by council (zoning bylaw allows 50ft & 5 storeys)

Ground floor commercial, developer said half of the commercial is already spoken for, and they are seeing lots of demand for commercial space along Main Street.

Very exciting development, I hope this, along with the new event centre will be a catalyst for future densification of Steinbach's Central Business District.

On a somewhat related note, the property at 245 Main St has been purchased and a local builder's sign has been put up, no word on any plan as of yet. This one is across the street from a grain elevator, I could see that potentially interfering with a residential development.

The new Thompson terminal building is being built across the airfield from the old building (sorry, not across the airfield but significantly to the left). That appears to be the new terminal in the picture. You can see that metal roofed garage in the foreground.

From Thompson Airport LinkedIn

Apparently the site where the current terminal building sits is subject to continual flooding.

^ It sure does! I was surprised to see such a tall building being built in Gimli but it makes sense given the location and use.

With some urban planning to allow for it and maybe some introduction of an industry of some type, I can see Gimli becoming a city in the next 30-40 years. What an awesome place to live too.

New potash mine opening in Manitoba. What's interesting about it is they use a different mining technique, they don't have any shareholders beyond locals with stakes and they plan on providing roughly 5% of profit to local economic and social development fund for Westman and an additional 5% to economic reconciliation.

Another interesting part of the article states that MB has 29 of the 31 critical minerals listed by the feds in our province. A mineral sovereign wealth fund should be established by the province.

they are currently there, but building new/expanding their operations.
"Highway Motor Freight is expanding operations at CentrePort Canada Rail Park outside Winnipeg with a $16 million investment in facilities and the creation of 150 jobs. This includes the acquisition of 20 acres of land to construct a 32,000-sq.-ft. transportation terminal, anticipated to be operational in late 2025.

Highway Motor Freight began operations out of a 7,000-sq.-ft. building at CentrePort Canada in 2020. The new facility, more than four times the size of its current space in Brookside Business Park, will enable the company to increase its fleet from 125 units to over 800 units and incorporate corporate operations, maintenance, warehouse space, and a wash bay.
