Murray's Mixed Use Boom

Murray has 1,677 units either under construction or proposed and the majority of them are mixed use with a total of 60,074sqft in retail space!

I live in Murray and am a member of a Murray facebook group which is filled with incessant whining about how all of these mixed use apartments are ruining this suburban community.

I'm from Orem and the NIMBIYism is out of control we had to fight to get student housing built adjacent to UVU the biggest university in the state! I get it, the region is growing fast. But they were popping kids out fast and now they need a place to live.

Come to more Planning Commission and City Council meetings! They only hear from NIMBYs so they think that is what the community wants. We need more people involved or Murray is going to move (further) backwards.

We had a student housing proposal in Provo adjacent to the BYU stadium and even though it was 5 to 7 stories, it was still less high than the houses to the east of it because of the hill slope. But, the NIMBYs came out with their pitchforks. It’s usually the same demographic too.

oh yeah,
I'm familiar with that particular project, it would have been a great addition to the area. Utah county has a suburbia is God's chosen way kind of ideology.

Thanks for that update, Paniolo Man. That is really going to be a nice addition to the aquarium and a real asset to our community.

Not the greatest photo of all time (taken from the train because they’ve got all the streets completely blocked off), but here’s the new stadium up in Daybreak. I’ll try and get one of the new TRAX platform that’s under construction too.

Well that would have definitely been the tallest building in Utah. 30+ floors of Class A office would be at least 500 ft. I like the design but I wish it was downtown. There's not much reason to build something like that at The Point other than to one-up SLC.

I doubt we see anything like it anytime soon though, with how bad office leasing is going these days.
