Mulva Hall

Quote:
Here comes Mulva Hall!

A year after @UTAustin's McCombs School of Business celebrated its 100th anniversary, the school is now building for the future. L-shaped Mulva Hall for undergraduate business will be just east of Dobie Center (circled). To be opened in 2028.

Dobie Center parking garage will be demolished.

Nice to get a new project announcement during the boom wind down. Here's a UT version of the article with renderings if the Statesman article gets paywalled:

That looks great for a college campus. UT has had some great wins lately.

Before actually looking at the comment and seeing it was McCombs, my first thought glancing at these photos was "wow, that's a ton of retail space, that will be great around campus" -- oh well.

Two other brief thoughts after actually looking more closely:

1. I'm guessing the upper half of the building will have a brick facade? The bottom half looks to be limestone, which would fit the general burnt orange/white aesthetic with brick and limestone that UT's done with a few other recent campus buildings.

2. If the timeline for construction on the graduate school of business is any indicator, this will be 3+ years down the road, but does anyone know the eventual plans for McCombs' current building? The press release from UT doesn't mention anything about it.

Future home of the School of Social Work. The current location of the school is being razed for the new Texas football practice facility.

Based on the rendering, it looks like the northwest corner of that block will still be a parking lot, unfortunately.

Do you mean next to the UCC where the taco stands currently park themselves? I believe that lot is owned by the church itself.

Yes. Although, (again based on the rendering) it looks as if the building footprint might not use the entirety of the parking garage footprint either. The northern end of the parking garage creeps into that northwest corner of the block.

It's almost sad to think about this being the tallest Austin building to start in about a year and a half.
