This video REALLY highlights the potential along 87, 156, SPR. It's also remarkable that if this was in any other city we would be seeing speculation and 10-20 multi-fam projects in planning or U/C along this route. Here's hoping, but it seems to be a reminder of how Edmonton real estate works.

Wow this is so much further along than I remember! Thanks for posting. My dad can't stop talking about the installation of the elevated sections and it reminds him of the old boom times.

Still can't believe this might be open by 2028 at the earliest.

Anyone know why the Churchill Connector is blocked off for one of the area's major events?

Valley Line Southeast takes you to the Edmonton Folk Festival
August 6, 2024

For the first time, Edmonton Folk Music Festival attendees will be able to take the Valley Line Southeast to the festival grounds at Gallagher Park.

The Valley Line Southeast schedule will be as follows:
Thursday, August 8 and Friday, August 9: From start of service to 6:30 p.m., trains will run at normal frequency. Between 6:30 p.m. and the end of service, trains will run every 10 minutes.
Saturday, August 10: Trains run every 10 minutes all day.
Sunday, August 11: From start of service to 2:30 p.m., frequency will continue normally at every 15 minutes. From 2:30 p.m. to the end of service, trains will run every 10 minutes.

Festival attendees from Sherwood Park can take Route 411 to Gallagher Park. More information is available on the Strathcona County website.

Parking is available at Davies Transit Centre.

Regular fares apply. To ensure a smooth and safe transit journey for everyone, we recommend attendees purchase fare products before starting the trip. This could be an Arc card/ticket, a pack of paper tickets or a Family/Day pass, depending on their needs. Operators and ETS staff do not carry change or fare products.

For riders who regularly take transit to events and pay cash fare, purchasing an Arc card is recommended.

For non-regular transit riders or for people who live outside of the Edmonton region, Arc single-use tickets can be purchased through Arc vending machines at transit centres and LRT stations and other ETS products can be purchased at various sales outlets.

Ouch.
---

ETS own-source revenues per capita in 2023 ($85) diminished by 54 per cent from their peak 2013 level of $187 (inflation-adjusted 2023 dollars). Own-source revenues include fare and non-fare revenues. While COVID-19 had significant effects on all transit systems across North America, the downward movement of ETS revenues per capita began in 2014, long before any impacts of COVID-19. ETS experienced a 23 per cent reduction in revenues per capita in the six-year period from 2013 to 2019. There has been a diverging trend between ETS operating expenditures and revenues since 2013. ETS’s cost recovery levels were 23 per cent in 2023, significantly below 2013 levels (42 per cent).

^neat video, i didnt realize how many 'front yards' faced the line. From the Misericordia stop all the way to the Glenwood/Sherwood stop. Are they counting on all that being redeveloped? Seems like it will be a bit of a weird interface between the houses and the train. Granted those houses were already facing a major street, but still.

Transit ridership outpaces population growth
October 8, 2024

Edmonton is one of the fastest-growing cities in Canada, and Edmonton Transit Service (ETS) ridership exceeds population growth. From January to September 2024, ETS ridership has grown by 14 per cent compared to 2023, continuing one of the strongest post-pandemic ridership recoveries in the country.

ETS is on track to move nearly 60 million riders in 2024, up from 53 million riders in 2023. The opening of the 13-kilometre Valley Line Southeast LRT in November 2023 has contributed to this increase by providing another option for riders to reach destinations between Mill Woods and downtown. Nearly two million trips have been taken on Valley Line Southeast LRT between November 2023 and August 2024.

ETS has 120 regular bus routes, 50 school routes, three LRT lines and an On Demand Transit service. Edmonton is one of five cities in Canada with a high-frequency transit grid, meaning it provides transit in the core of our city at least every 15 minutes most times of day, seven days a week.

In 2023, City Council invested in growing transit service, adding 120,000 service hours to the transit network. While these investments help ease the pressure on transit service, the gap between current service levels and the Transit Service Standards continues to expand as the city’s population and neighbourhoods grow.

“We’ve been investing in the transit network and are proud to deliver equitable, accessible and convenient service that will continue to meet the needs of riders,” said Carrie Hotton-MacDonald, Branch Manager, Edmonton Transit Service. “We’re working to make it easier for people to choose transit, and are excited to see this positive response. We’re thankful for our riders and the growth we’ve been experiencing.”

In April 2021, ETS launched the current bus network; year-over-year monthly ridership has increased for 42 consecutive months. In September 2024, monthly ridership exceeded six million for the first time, as ETS welcomed back students and riders returned to fall routines. Overall, ridership has exceeded pre-pandemic levels by 12 per cent since the beginning of the year.

ETS continually analyzes transit performance to ensure it remains efficient and effective for riders. This includes making service adjustments five times each year, based on transit data, rider feedback, seasonal changes and ridership growth. Riders are encouraged to plan their trips at edmonton.ca/transit.

Well done!

Stadium Station redesign sees calls for service drop by 50%

The old Stadium Station was consistently ranked among the top five stations on the LRT system that dominated calls for service to the ETS control centre. Those calls could be for security incidents, disorder, crime, or trespassing.

Redevelopment of the station was completed in May 2023. Hotton-MacDonald said the station has seen a 50% reduction in calls for service since 2019. It now places in the bottom five of a list that it sometimes used to top. This data doesn’t include 9-1-1 calls.

I thought it was possible to get access on the north or east side of the hospital. If not there should be some access planning based on the front entrance being blocked. But this is Edmonton. Construction and planning is not something that goes together.
