The City of Burnaby and the port authority were previously in talks to pre-approve an alternate pedestrian and cycle-only path at a different location, but Olson said while the current design “does contemplate” a future pedestrian crossing, it’s outside the scope of the overpass project.

I think it's more of a formality/feedback loop for people directly affected by the construction.

Feedback from phase three engagement will help us ensure those who will be impacted by construction can be reached when we notify about upcoming work and know what to expect. We will summarize the feedback and share it with the community in fall 2024.

Seems like they usually only have two phases.

The first stage of engagement is to occur during the preliminary review phase, where the
applicant is expected to hold a preliminary comment period to provide the public with an
overview of the project, outline the technical studies to be undertaken, as well as provide
the scope of the studies for public feedback.

The second stage of engagement is to occur during the application review phase, where the
applicant is expected to provide the public with more details of the project, provide results
of the completed technical studies as well as any proposed mitigations.

Surrey's 10 Year Plan is a misnomer. It should be called the "some day" plan. There is a few road improvements in the forgotten East Surrey, that have been on the 10 year plan for going close to 20 years now, with no start in sight. (88 Avenue intersections still with stop signs, 192nd Street interchange with Hwy 1, 192 St connector to Fraser Hwy to name a few)

There are an insane number of serious collisions happening on BC roads right now. A lot are being caused by commercial trucks.

Anecdotally, I have witnessed more insanity on the roads. Intentionally running through red lights, wrong way driving, parking on the wrong side of the road, passing on the shoulder, passing on a sidewalk...You would occasionally see this back a decade ago but it's total chaos in the 2020's.

I was back in BC last month for an extended weekend and I was fortunate enough to
a) not have to drive and
b) not witness anything too crazy/dangerous.

That said, from what I've been seeing on Vancouver's Worst Drivers it certainly seems to be worse than it was even 5 years ago (which is about the time I moved to Alberta). I had already avoided driving in Metro Vancouver whenever possible since I started driving because of the insanity/stress of it all (and that was 20 years ago now).

Twenty-five people have died on B.C. roadways in just 10 days, prompting a warning from not only B.C.'s coroner but also highway patrol police.

The BC Coroners Service confirms with Glacier Media there have been 25 motor vehicle-related deaths between July 5 and July 15.

Make it 26 people now after a fatal collision on Hwy 7 tonight.

Time-based vehicle access restrictions – Temporarily close Park Drive to vehicles for a specific amount of time on a regular basis for active transportation and a transit or shuttle service only.

Vehicle time slot bookings – Book a free but specified time slot for vehicles, either at all times or only during spring and summer weekends.

Park Drive with dedicated transit lane – Reallocate one lane of Park Drive and dedicate it for public transit and shuttle/tour buses.

Park Drive with dedicated bike lane – Reallocate one lane of Park Drive for active (wheeled) transportation (bikes, e-bikes, scooters, hand-cycling, etc.) with physical separation from vehicles.

Car-free Park Drive with dedicated bike and bus lanes – Close Park Drive to vehicles and provide one dedicated lane for a public transit or shuttle service and tour buses, and a second protected lane would accommodate active transportation (bikes, e-bikes, scooters, etc.).

Car-free Park Drive for active transportation and shuttle/transit only – Close Park Drive to cars and dedicate the road for two-way active transportation (bikes, e-bikes, scooters, hand-cycling, etc.) shared with a single one-way public transit or shuttle service.

I hear you.

This morning, saw this guy in my rear view, noticed he could not get by me on the left (car next to me in that lane) so he aggressively cut to the right to pass me and muscled his way pass 2 buses.

Please please send copies of that to ICBC, police or wherever. That person should have their license stripped for life. It's a miracle they didn't hit any pedestrians or cyclists.

The car that plowed into those parked cars, I believe happen earlier in the morning, was not the same car that passed me on the right.
I also though it was that road bully, until I looked at the video, 2 different cars.

Hey! Thanks for that. I can't believe it. They have had that extra road space reserved for decades! I played around there a lot as kid, in fact my grandparents' (both have passed away now) old house is in those videos!

Membrane work for the truck tunnel under Howe St.:

Howe & Georgia Crosswalk Waterproofing Membrane Replacement

Starting July 29 and going until August 24, road construction work will begin at the intersection of Georgia and Howe to repair a waterproof membrane that protects a section of the truck tunnel that services the Pacific Centre loading dock. During this time, traffic on Howe will continue to flow with two lanes open between Dunsmuir and Georgia, with all lanes re-opening after the parkade entrance at Howe & Georgia. The south crosswalk will be inaccessible during the day and pedestrians will be asked to cross onto the north side of Georgia. A temporary crosswalk will be set-up in the evenings. Entry into the parkades will not be impacted and drivers will still be able to turn left onto Georgia from Howe, however delays are to be expected during these weeks. Flaggers will be on site during the duration of the work to assist with traffic.
