Gojo Deli and Bar, an Ethiopian establishment, has opened at the former Woods Alehouse location on 2nd. That unit had a "Leased" sign on it for well over a year (as still does the former Starbucks at 2nd and 22nd).

The 2 restaurants you listed are good choices for adults. Does it matter what part of city? Where will most of you be staying??
We are staying at The Delta. Not sure where the sports facilities are located.
We would prefer local establishments if possible.

Just curious....has anyone checked out the Gather Marketplace (old farmers market) yet? Curious as to the vibe and what it has to offer.

It's a trek from the delta but depending on where the kids' activities have you going stoked at Wilson's could be an option.

I'm still a sucker for ice cream at homestead.

And hometown diner is a good for breakfast/lunch.

We attended the grand opening... an excellent vibe! Made a point to go a few times since, just to see how it's doing. A fabulous space. My only suggestion would be to open earlier... (11am week days currently) 10am on weekends misses opportunities .... the outdoor market opens at 9am.. we like to go first thing in the morning, and left before the indoor Gather Market opened.
I love this new space, we have tremendous local vendors and artists!

Broadway Roastery

Apparently the Broadway location of the Broadway Roastery is closing on August 12. A sign on the door says that "the past 6 years had many hurdles but we perservered and now have come to a fork in the road." The 8th Street location will remain in business.

The former 13 Pies space on 2nd Ave will reopen as Green Room:

"Nestled in the heart of downtown Saskatoon, Green Room is so much more than just a speakeasy. As an extension of Coors Event Centre, it’s a sanctuary for musicians and music lovers to discover new sounds and new talent from Saskatoon’s own. Green Room cultivates the community that makes music come to life."

By Mia Holowaychuk

Saskatoon is saying goodbye to a cherished, family-owned, community hub as the Broadway Roastery closes one of its locations next month after 31 years of serving locals.

The roastery located on Broadway Avenue is known for its warm atmosphere and role as a popular spot for studying, meetings, and Monday morning coffee. [...]

Churchill Brewing

I was at the recently opened tap room at Churchill Brewing Co in Sutherland. It is a very nice tap room and will be even better when the patio opens. Food was very good and the price for a pint of beer and a flight of beer was very reasonable.

Broadway Roastery

So I heard a very unconfirmed rumour the other day that a restaurant will be moving into the Broadway Roastery space. I had thought maybe the building had been sold and we might see it leveled for a new development. But I heard the existing Broadway Roastery owner has someone interested in leasing space for restaurant. No details on type of restaurant or when.

Anyone else heard anything???

Dale MacKay

Had a reservation next month at F&B (former Sticks & Stones) on 2nd. They just cancelled and said that they're selling an closing-- transferring to another local owner.

I've also heard that the restaurant space at the top of the River Landing East tower (RBC one, not Nutrien) has leased and is going to open sometime in the near-ish future as a 'luxury restaurant at the top of the tower'. This would likely include the rooftop patio. (Referenced on Modus's Projects Page, under Luxury Restaurant, with the map at the bottom showing River Landing as the location: https://www.modusventures.ca/projects )

I can't help but wonder if this is going to be Dale MacKay's next project, after closing up Ayden and now F&B. Pure speculation, but I can't really think of another local player that would have the name recognition and who is also currently in a position to make a tower-top keystone restaurant like this work.

Thoughts??

Interesting theory. 3rd Ave outside the east tower was closed last week to allow materials of some sort to be craned onto the roof.

I am also curious about the new local operator of the F&B location.

Paradox Pizza & Beer is a new arrival on the scene that has been doing pizza pop-ups out of Amigos recently, but the "beer" in their name is so far absent, although this Global article references their participation in a brewing incubator at the 9 Mile facility. Makes me think the pop-ups are their soft launch strategy prior to launching a permanent location...

Carson's Q offers melt-in-your-mouth slow cooked brisket and barbecue selections

by Don Rice
Published Sep 24, 2024
Saskatoon Star Phoenix

Businesses and non-profit organizations regularly open and move in Saskatoon. Today the StarPhoenix talks with Ronnie Carson, who opened Carson’s Q on Millar Avenue in April.

Carson smokes just about every item on his menu, including desserts. The restaurant offers take-out and delivery, but has no dine-in seating.

Popular on his menu are a ground beef brisket burger and mac and cheese, using recipes perfected over years of cooking. Carson’s Q is located behind Bun’s House Restaurant on Millar Avenue, in the same store space as Prairie Market and Skip a Beet.

Sisters bring a taste of the Amazon rainforest to Saskatoon

by Don Rice

Saskatoon Star Phoenix

Businesses and non-profit organizations regularly open and move in Saskatoon. Today the StarPhoenix talks to sisters Anna Tavares Siemens & Theresa Tavares who opened Oakberry Acai Bowls & Smoothies in June on Broadway Avenue.

Sisters Anna, 33, and Theresa, 30, who grew up in Brazil but have lived in recent years in Saskatoon, are pleased to bring a taste of home from the Amazon rainforest to Saskatchewan. Both studied at the U of S with Anna receiving her commerce degree and Theresa an English masters degree. When they travel home to visit Brazil, they always have the acai berry whenever they can, but they say they could never find it fresh in Saskatoon. When the opportunity to open an Oakberry Acai franchise came up, they were thrilled to introduce Saskatoonians to a bit of their culture and to provide local Brazilians with a familiar flavour of home.

Heard an unsubtantiated rumour from employee of The Bay in Saskatoon that it will be closing in the next year. I can't say I am really surprised...but a shame that Saskatchewan will be left with no BAY in either major city.

The Bay will be closing down in the Cornwall Centre in Regina in 2025. The company did not renew it's lease. They plan to continue operating the store in the Midtown in Saskatoon. Perhaps it too will close once the lease comes up for renewal.

Grassroots closing F&B. The restaurant biz is an absolute dumpster fire right now.
