School Planning and Construction

Every now and then a discussion occurs here on SSP regarding school planning so I figure I'd make a thread for this.

The TVDSB announced today that they have acquired land for two new elementary schools in London and they are planned to be open in September 2026. This is in addition to the two TVDSB schools currently under construction (and if we're being honest... all 4 new schools will likely be at overcapacity on day 1).

The first new school will be in the southeast part of the city at Honeywood Drive and Gatestone Road in the new Jackson Meadows subdivision which is to the east of Summerside.

The second new school will be in the southwest part at Upperpoint Avenue and Boardwalk Way, which is the subdivision south of Oxford and east of Westdel Bourne

every newly built school in my neighborhood (e.g., St. John French Immersion Primary, St. Andre-Bessette Secondary) had portables within a year of being built.

And yet, the Sherwood Forest Elementary school was demolished.

Foxwood Developments and the Catholic School Board are in mediation over expropriation of land for a new school.

The new St Gabriel Catholic Elementary School off Buroak Dr in NW London is making alot of progress with the window units now going in and the exterior insulation ahead of the exterior brick being installed.

The new Public Elementary School a few hundred meters away on Buroak Dr and Fair Oaks Blvd now has almost completed the structural steel installation with only the steel roof joists left to install on the 2nd floor level and Gym.

Also construction of the new elementary school at the NE corner of Regiment and Pack Rd is progressing fast with the 2nd floor precast concrete floor slabs already installed and all the structural steel posts for the 2 story building up. The concrete block walls for the gym are also up to the second level. Still need to pour the ground floor slab as of yet but work still happening on all the under slab utilities.

There are almost no residents around the current Regina Mundi location...which I believe is downwind of several dumps.

Regina Mundi is an objectively poor location for a secondary school. Kids who miss the school bus home have to ask the office to call a taxi for kids so they can get back into the city. Not even an LTC or a sidewalk to ride your bike too - essentially giving the kids zero freedom of mobility, instead relying solely on private vehicle ownership for extra curricular participation.
