That's why the loop is being closed. To get a proper accelration lane would require that large retaining all to be moved. So the cheapest is to close the loop and install WB left turn on Portage Ave to access the ramp.

There's so many ideas to float bout. But the City has made their mind up on the shitty 6 lanes stroad option.

It also doesn't help that basically everyone chooses to stop instead of trying to merge on that thing. Another option would be to lengthen the loop. Or reconfigure the north side of the street a bit to make cars join southbound a little further. Honestly, how bad would it be if people wanting to go south on Kenaston had to go from Ness?

Edit: Sorry I was thinking of the ramp from EB portage to SB Route 90. You can't see shit coming down that ramp. The loop has lots of room. But I think they want to get rid of the merge there. To make it like a freeway with proper merge lanes lol the whole thing makes no sense to me.

It's rather unbelievable that the loop was designed like that in the first place. I actually went on to Google maps last night to see if I was exaggerating.

The idea of having absolutely no space to merge properly on to Kenaston ( which I believe is 60-70km/h), from the loop, which is probably max 30-40 km/h, is insane. What was the City thinking?

lol...not the least surprised. There are people in Calgary and Edmonton, with their superior infrastructure, and numerous freeways, that do not know that one is supposed to speed up when merging. With Winnipeg, where there are no freeways, it must be a pain seeing so many slow down when exiting the off ramp from one of our few overpasses.

The wildest things about those blind merge yield lanes is that they wouldn't work at all if Route 90 was actually free flowing. You actually need traffic to stop at Ness or Academy so you can take your turn.

And how about that off-ramp from SB Route 90 to WB Portage just dumping onto a residential street? Or how about the on-ramp from EB portage to NB Route 90, which doesn't exist?

Reference large construction site on the North side of Provencher, are they getting started on building out the bike lanes and redoing the street as per the plan that came out a while ago?

EDIT: On a side note, what is the status of Archibald between Marion and Plinguet? We're several days into July now and not a single construction crew or equipment has finished up the bike paths on the east side/northbound side of Archibald, along with some finishing touches with paving into the parking lots of businesses, side streets, and finish up the curb island right at the turning lane going into eastbound Marion from Archibald. All those barricades are still in place of those curbs. They went into mid-November last year to finish up the curbs and paving Archibald.

CN recently did work on the crossing right by First Canada and Messier St.
Work has restarted on Archibald as of July 22 . There is no southbound traffic starting at Plinguet Street and the northbound traffic is moved to the southbound lane with JC's loaders etc sitting in the normal northbound lane.

there may be some off rush hour closures northbound for gas work thru Aug 5 as well.

Yup, noticed the signages leading up to them.

Thanks!

Maybe CN moved the crossing signal mast to be aligned properly with the road and pathway. The crossing itself was rehabbed in recent times to remove all the unused tracks.

Crossing Signal mast location northbound was changed out a few years ago probably in advance of the paving work.
