The fetishization/worship of Europe by North Americans knows no bounds. What you're describing as 'Euro-ish' is better classified as the vernacular of that era (1880-1940). That's simply what cities the world over built back then: finely grained row housing tailored to cities where people walked/took PT. Car culture hadn't taken root yet. And it's hardly something one only finds in Toronto.
