Enlisted marines get their uniforms tailored. I understand the CF has budget issues, but couldn't somebody get a tailor for for the CDS and Commander in Chief?

You have a point there. They are supposed to be the leadership representatives
but they look like they are entering a Halloween party.

She absolutely is. I have never questioned that.

You don't get to wear Leaves without having some military competence.

Saying I would have preferred another candidate, should not be read as deeming her unsuitable.

There's less than a literal handful of tailors for the thousands of military in Ottawa. And operational requirements are priority over aesthetics.

Our uniforms are crap in general. I'm happy the CDS is dressed like one of us, so the rest of you understand the problem.

Not crazy at all. He would make an ok PM.

Well, 2023 had no cap at all and 2024 does. A cap that came in midway through Q1. Lets have a look at how Q2 pans out before coming to the conclusion that the Liberals are misleading Canadians.

Most of these types of programs are first come - first serve. When they hit the limit for 2024 they stop issuing permits then wait for it to reset next year.

I expected better reporting from one of our national papers.

Using a bunch of 80s arguments with women under about 60 is going to backfire spectacularly. What half successful or slightly ambitious woman hasn't faced accusations of being too ambitious or faced actual predation?

It's honestly the most entertaining thing to watch of this twist in their election. Lots of guys revealing themselves to their wives, sisters and daughters for the Neanderthals they are.

Can't say I saw it coming. But that completely unhinged and undisciplined reaction is marketing she could never buy and will absolutely benefit from. They could have made it about her record. Instead they jumped right to one of the core accusations that strikes a nerve with half the population.
At least in my case, I didn't allude to those specific details and don't necessarily see Kamala being shrewd and calculating as being an entirely negative thing.

Lack of tailors if you use the CAF system. If you are willing to foot the bill yourself then there are lots of options. I got my pants done at the tailors in the Carlingwood Mall within 5 days. Since we get our uniforms for free (points system) there is no reason for the kit to look that bad, especially on senior officers and the GG.

Yes our uniforms are absolute garbage and look like garbage if you don't take the time to tailor them. I am also lucky that I'm RCN and I can get modern looking pants off the rack at the Bay (Haggar pants with the "action" waist are tres comfortable). Not many Air Force Blue or Rifle Green pants available at the Bay.

It's not about being unsuitable. Probbaly in 2020 that was correct. Interesting they had her jump over Allen who seemed like she was being set up to be next?
She has been given a lot of experience recently so is probably suitable. Having our military led by someone probably suitable is one issue another though at least we know it's very unlikely she will be accused of sexual misconduct soon after appointment.

The idea that middle age men are complaining about the best candidates being promoted just because they are used to getting all the priveldge is kind of ridiculous when it is obvious people are being promoted only on their indentity. The conversation at these top levels is different as representation certainly matters but it is of course widespread across the organization as well.

Back to this thread. This kind of virtue signalling DEI is basically the only reason I'll be voting for the Conservatives as I'm less confident in their economic plan and don't think the Liberals are as disastrous as the consensus here(though I'd also prefer a more centrist path).

I'm assuming is that September is when we'll see the real difference, if there is one.

The RCN workdress is actually a great looking Uniform as they look like they give a hoot about appearance and it looks functional and "NAVY"

I would assume the same thing.

They introduced a per/year cap on student visas. I don't know that resets. Are doing calendar year (with a Jan 1 reset)? Are they doing fiscal year (with April 1st reset)?

Either way, if the Liberals live up to their promise we are probably looking at late summer or September before the limit is hit for the year.

There are some secondary impact, e.g. some schools discontinue programs and reduce staffing. I would assume there is something to this change. But we will see.

Work dress is about combat effectiveness. Not looking good. That silly notion is why we had dumb shit like blousing combat pants and army NCOs making sure people polish combat boots. I'm so glad that era is done. Incoming bullets don't care how good your combats look.

Save the complaints about looks for DEUs. And on that front, part of the reason our DEUs look like crap (the horrible pastel colours) is specifically because the Chain of Command has never cared about DEUs. It's seen as something you wear to work in Ottawa or a few times a year. Forcing people to tailor their DEUs like other countries do is something that should have happened decades ago. But has never really been a thing, as long as I've been in.

Don't worry, all (that matters to JT's country club buddies) is well. Rogers quarterly profits up $290 million YoY. No doubt because more and more Canadians are choosing to purchase second and third cell phone plans for themselves.

Rogers Communications' second-quarter subscriber additions beat on steady demand

July 24 (Reuters) - Canada's Rogers Communications (RCIb.TO), opens new tab beat analysts' estimates for quarterly wireless subscriber additions on Wednesday, helped by steady demand for its mobile plans.
The company added 112,000 monthly bill-paying wireless phone subscribers in the second quarter, compared with estimates of 110,450, according to Visible Alpha.
Canada has been seeing a steady rise in immigration as it welcomes more people in a bid to grow its population and boost economy - increasing demand for Rogers' plans aimed at newcomers.
Loblaws did pretty well in the first quarter too. Will be interesting to see how the last quarter shaped up.

https://www.reuters.com/business/ret...es-2024-05-01/

Quote:
Loblaw reports strong first quarter on resilient demand, easing food prices

May 1 (Reuters) - Canadian food and pharmacy retailer Loblaw Companies (L.TO), opens new tab topped expectations for first-quarter revenue and profit on Wednesday, aided by sustained consumer demand well as easing prices of grocery items.
The company has seen gains from steady sales of essential items such as groceries and medicines, as well as higher demand for its private labels as consumers trade down from well-known brands that are typically more expensive.
I'm sure that increased demand for food can be explained by Canadians having larger appetites this year compared to last. I've certainly put on a few pounds myself!

John Ivison: Trust the Liberals to fix immigration? The Bank of Canada doesn't
https://nationalpost.com/opinion/ban...ls-immigration

It is apparent that the Bank of Canada feels like it has to step in to clean up the federal government’s mess.

In its Monetary Policy Report, the bank said that NPRs will continue to rise in the near term and it will take longer than predicted to reduce inflows to achieve the five-per-cent target.
“Considerable uncertainty continues to surround the future path of net NPR flows,” it said.

If NPRs continue to leave Canada or become permanent residents at the rate observed since 2021, achieving the target would require reducing average annual gross NPR inflows by around 70 to 80 per cent across the temporary foreign worker program, the International Mobility Program and the asylum-seeker program, in addition to imposing a cap on the number of international students.

Mike Moffatt, an economist and senior director at the Smart Prosperity Institute, said the bank is clearly questioning the credibility of the federal commitment to the five-per-cent target.

“I think it’s fair. They’re basically saying the government isn’t going to do what they claim they’ll do. I don’t remember the last time I saw that from them,” he said.

It is a sign of how undisciplined immigration policy has become that the central bank feels it has to step out of its lane to admonish the government.
