I’m in agreement with you - I’d rather have a shorter tower with some style than the generic big boxes we’ve been getting, but at the same time I know Dallas hasn’t seen a major skyscraper built (with the exception of Museum Tower and Fountain Place pt2) since the boom of the 80’s so I’ll take whatever we can get.

The fact that we have a park overlay for a non-existent park is about the most orwellian and austin thing I've heard of. If someone asked me what's wrong with modern urbanism (or lack thereof) I would just direct them to this fact.

If anyone needs somthing positive at least know that we get to preserve the views of frost tower from this angle a little longer now. Getting pretty hidden on the other sides, especially if those office proposals actually get green lit

Good point. I love Frost, and I’d be sad if it were to disappear into the masses.

That's for Demo/site prep/excavation. The site plan for the building is not yet approved. But it should be approved soon:

A ROW closure for construction was filed today. The construction timeframe is listed as 08/19/24 through 05/01/26.

Interest rates are coming down and the Federal Reserve is likely to start cutting the Fed funds rate fairly soon. That should help the cause for more ground breakings.

I think late 2024 into 2025 will be Austin's full recovery.

Is there any photo evidence? There should be a ROW closure for this and Embassy Suites & Tempo by Hilton going on right now.

There was never an active ROW closure for the dual branded Hilton. The permit was rejected after it was filed a year ago and the status didn't change.

The new permit system so far does not show the dates of ROW closures. So there is no way to tell what the dates for the Marriott Autograph ROW closure are now. It may be active, but the dates sometimes change after filing.

I was downtown yesterday and checked on the Autograph (307 E 5th) and the Embassy-Tempo (209 W 5th) and there was zero activity - no permits posted, no ROW closure, nada.

https://www.globenewswire.com/news-r...in-Austin.html

Quote:
Austin, Texas, Oct. 15, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- White Lodging, one of the foremost developers of urban and lifestyle hotels and restaurants in the country, in partnership with REI Real Estate, is expanding in Austin once again – adding another hotel to its already more than 4,000 guest rooms and more than 220,000 square feet of meeting space in the city.

Starting this month, Hotel Trinity, Autograph Collection, will begin its 13-floor, 258-room rise at the corner of Trinity and Fifth Streets.
