Do snowbirds go to LA particularly? I didn’t think that was a place they would choose particularly.

It's probably families going to disney/universal or winter holidays. The reverse traffic is Californians going skiing

KLM 2Q25 VANCOUVER FREQUENCY CHANGES – 11JUL24

KLM in the second quarter of 2025 is adjusting operational aircraft on Amsterdam – Vancouver route, based on preliminary schedule listing. For the period of 30MAR25 – 09JUN25, the Skyteam member will operate this route 6 times weekly, returning to 1 daily level by 10JUN25.

Boeing 777-300ER aircraft is scheduled on this route, as of 11JUL24.

KL681 AMS1520 – 1555YVR 77W x2
KL682 YVR1750 – 1205+1AMS 77W x2

The Alaska Airlines release specifically mentioned the route being focused on ski trips from LAX (and other parts of Alaska's network that connect thru LAX, I suppose, not sure how much demand there is from the smaller centres to YLW via LAX, but I'm sure it exists. Alaska has a lot of connector routes in LAX, although not as many as SEA obviously. But it seems like such a niche market to me, surprised it is healthy enough to run. The reason inbound is more the motivator is simply that the local market size for YLW is nowhere near Southern California, so obviously the needs of LA is more the driver than needs of Okanaganers. If this was a Canadian airline it would be different, but for AS to do it is pretty cool. It's still the smallest CMA to get service from a US carrier, and two destinations at that now. And of course, the reverse connectivity is great for Okanagan residents too, LAX is important for lots of reasons, O&D and connecting. I hope the service is well used by Canadians as well as the US skiers, it will make it more stable for long term service.

3H's inaugural 738 freighter entered service yesterday: https://www.newswire.ca/news-release...808028562.html

Their two other 738s are undergoing conversion to a combi configuration, which will need TC certification before entering service sometime in 2025.

The days of scheduled 732 pax/combi ops are drawing ever closer to an end. I guess that means the runway at YPX is getting paved or pavement-like tar sealed this summer or next?

YCG is home base this summer to a Q400 water bomber for forest fire fighting. First year of this plane in town. And with lots of lightning it has started some fires north of here so lots of plane action. Sorry no pics.

I would expect to see more sealed runways. This larger Combi is much needed. I could see Canadian North add more to their fleet as well. The one big stumbling block was if you carry more cargo there are less passengers and vis versa. These large aircraft should reduce that significantly. And I see where larger aircraft are being done.

According to the radio this morning, there is a big IT outage going on, so that might be the reason. I haven't stumbled across anything yet myself, so maybe it's fixed now.

Yeah, Porter's cancelled/delayed all their flights until Noon Eastern today (Jul 19).

Seems like some of the smaller/earlier flights got through, but the bigger jets are stuck. The flights to/from Fredericton seem to have left and arrived on time, but the bigger flights across Canada are delayed.

I'm flying out west tomorrow morning, so I hope this snarl is sorted out fast so my flights won't be too delayed.

The actual Cloudstrike/MS issue does seem to be solved, but it sounds like affected systems need manual intervention, which will be an IT nightmare with how distributed they are.
