I just noticed they have the bike lane and sidewalk laid out (marked in green paint). I love seeing things at their genesis.

Spanish Steps in Rome, look out!

Awesome update, Zep! You covered all the basis: picture, animation and movie!

Things are progressing now after that remediation delay, perhaps there is hope for fall opening after all.

I believe they are adding more retail on each side of this to be ground-based Granville Street, 1350-1399 Granville, to the left in this picture.

I wonder how these will fare. It did take some time to rent the units south of White Spot and The Yale. And the takers were two gyms and a dance studio - all businesses that are more "destination" type business that don't rely on foot traffic.

2016 Available for rent: https://maps.app.goo.gl/R5T9z2WLX9tVR24A9

2022 Each Google Street View year shows that it is still available for rent: https://maps.app.goo.gl/K518TtcqFPz9dQGSA

2023 Rented https://maps.app.goo.gl/ipazXVDgK9oUyszX7

Things are moving along. I think I have to walk back some of my skepticism that this would be finish by fall.

For sure, your pictures are showing us a project to be delivered on time.
I can already see a grassy (or other material) knoll and smell the asphalt being pressed down.
I walk by here once a week, first sight of blacktop, I will post.

I'm still waiting for them to get started on those mid-bridge signals. Can they do those in 4-5 months?

Seems like they were targeting signals for the West side of the bridge first?

Anyways, the precast panels for the mechanically stabilized earth walls have been installed along the new roadway close to Pacific where the bridge has been demolished.
It really depends on the backfill material, compaction, and what kind of road structure they are putting on top. Best would be something of a continuation of the deck with reinforced concrete slabs sitting on those abutment walls.

This really lets people appreciate the amount of time, effort, and finances involved to even remove a small section of a bridge. Imagine the kind of work to be done on the viaduct removal.

Check back to the earlier posts on this thread. The demolition was reported as taking very little time at all. The regrading and construction of the replacement road network is the slower and more expensive aspect of the project.

There's not really much of a comparison with the viaducts, which you didn't need to mention here. If Council changed their mind about getting rid of the viaducts, you're correct, it would be hugely disruptive and expensive to demolish them and rebuild them to current seismic code. Fortunately, the current plan is to just remove them.
