SEC of Thomas Rd & 7th St will be Original Chop Shop

They were originally looking just south of the SWC of Osborn Rd & 7th St but abandoned that plan. The new location is already posted on their website for upcoming locations (scroll down to "Coming Soon")

Thank you for the update. I hadn't heard about that change in plans.

Small tidbit. Drove by today and saw that a Senor Taco is taking up the old Jack in the Box space on Central in Midtown. A little sumthin' for the area.

Oh man, there's a battle for the preservationists. I would hope they would at least consider moving it.

Actually, looking at the renderings a little more. It looks like that could be something for the adjacent parking lot that True North once pitched for a Godfrey Hotel?

Yeah, the address on the marketing flyer is different from the pemberton house, and it makes no sense to demolish a perfectly serviceable 3 story building for another one anyways.

Really no surprise to me when you consider how off the beaten path it was. I always thought that location was incredibly pioneering but might enjoy a geographic monopoly, but the residential density just still isn't apparently there yet.

The other problem was that despite having "Downtown" in its name, it wasn't within walking distance of downtown sports facilities, theaters, and event venues. It had to exist solely as a destination in its own right, and maybe the market wasn't big enough for that. I always enjoyed the food there, although I'll say that while I enjoy the occasional glass of mead, it never seemed a natural accompaniment to a meal in the way that beer and wine are.

The "east side" of Downtown is no where near cosmopolitan enough for fine wine. It's giving more champurrado market vibes.

Too bad. I really liked the food and the mead. But I only went once or twice, so I guess I'm part of the problem.

A liquor license hearing sign is up on the 2-story shell building behind Taco Chelo at 925 N 5th St for Formation Brewing, the brainchild of a team out of Denver. An article has already reported on it as well:

Check out their site plan here, under District 8 applications:

Also, the smaller building between Tap That and the future brewery is going to be LeDu Thai. Based on their social media posts, looks like they'll be opening any day now

The Phoenix New Times reporting on it as well. It looks like we’ve got a rendering also.

Pedal Haus owner to open downtown Phoenix tiki bar and Tempe cantina

I think the Tempe bar had been announced but the Tiki Bar is news to me. It's set to open up at 1014 N 2nd St building (directly North from the old Carly's location).

Now I'm somewhat confused because I know The Nash was supposed to build its new 3,200 square foot education center at that same address. Is the building big enough to house both this center and the new Tiki bar? I saw permits were pulled for the bar as far back as Nov 2023 so looks like this is a a go and The Nash article below is from earlier this year.

Little O's on McDowell closed down unexpectedly. Didn't see that one coming...

Also, Illegal Pete's on Mill closed down. That one lasted longer than I thought it would, it was always empty. This probably has to be the biggest vacancy left on Mill?
