I hope the team goes to another owner who'd actually treat it as the main priority, rather than OEG who'd slot them in somewhere behind the Oilers, Ice District, and Oil Kings.

100%

MLSE and Calgary's groups have done SWEET F.A since becoming owners of their teams. Sell to someone who actually gives a crap and wants to see the team be successful, not the group with the deepest pockets.

While I tend to agree with you there is something to be said for deep pockets in a league that has had an ownership history like our beloved.

Also, I think the Argos may have picked up their game a bit last year after Amar Doman publicly embarrassed them. Further to that, the Argos new President and CEO is Scott Pelley who was formerly the Argos President and CEO. Now that the new car smell has gone off TFC, the Argos might get some actual decent treatment.

CFL touts new ‘augmented live streams’ on TSN+ powered by Genius Sports
3Down Staff June 18, 2024

The first-ever augmented live stream CFL game is about to take place on Thursday, June 20 when the Ottawa Redblacks visit the Montreal Alouettes.

The new enhanced feed will display player names, route trees, quarterback clocks, and speed calculators using data from player-tracking technology and microchip-implanted footballs. An example of what the video will look like can be seen below.

“When we talk about the path ahead for fan experience and fan interaction, one word comes to mind – more,” said CFL commissioner Randy Ambrosie. “More information. More understanding. More details to draw viewers in. More data to help fans feel like they’re in the game and truly part of the action.

“Our game is evolving. Through augmented broadcasts, we can showcase everything that makes our league so special – prime athletes in top-flight, the pace of CFL football, the quick-thinking of our players and more. This season’s entire lineup of offerings, developed with our partners, continues to lay the foundations for the future of our great game and CFL fandom.”

The augmented live streams were created through a partnership between the CFL, TSN, Genius Sports, and Wilson. They will be exclusively available on TSN+. A release from the league indicated that regular season games, postseason games, and the 111th Grey Cup will be made available in this format.

“We’re excited to begin a new era of CFL broadcasts through the creation of live stats-enhanced viewing experiences in partnership with TSN,” said Genius Sports chief partnerships officer Steven Burton. “These new insights will be delivered in real-time, bringing audiences closer to the live action through data-rich broadcast augmentations that enable CFL fans to immerse themselves in every play.”

“As Canada’s exclusive home of the CFL, we’re proud to have TSN+ showcase these innovative and entertaining new augmented live streams for fans across the country,” said Bell Media executive Shawn Redmond. “This new partnership with the CFL and Genius Sports provides our passionate CFL fans with even more unique and captivating insights into the game they love.”

The Ottawa Redblacks (1-0) will visit the Montreal Alouettes (2-0) on Thursday, June 20 with kickoff slated for 7:30 p.m. EDT

There was tons of media coverage for this game in Quebec, and many celebrities were in attendance and posting about it on social media.

The PKP effect? The champion team effect? A mix of both perhaps...

The sellout home opener was up 3K from last year which was up 3K from the year before. Funny what happens when you work at something.

Not only that, but a vocal and crowd that was looking like it was having a blast (the score helps).
