It was always supposed to be a longterm stay hotel, not like a normal residential building. I'm surprised that they were able to push the one tower taller.

I like the varied facade elements of the new tower as opposed to the all glass of the other TNS towers. I am disappointed that there wont be two towers though. I really liked the density all the new high-rises in the general area.

...also, I guess that south tower pad will always be there (like 300 Main).

Winnipeg sure likes it's undeveloped pre-constructed pad sites.

I don't think TN has anything to do with this. They sold the property to northlands. I liked the two tower design better.

I am guessing that there is still foundation capacity to support a second tower, seems pretty foolhardy to spend that kind of cash to not use the foundation, but yet again, this is Winnipeg: Home of the "future building/development site" phase 2 (in 50 years)...

Where was that rendering posted? Was there a variance number or anything like that?

I noticed a large group of people standing around on Hargrave earlier this morning. not sure what exactly they were doing. Thought maybe there was an announcement of some kind. Then saw the render posted. Maybe just coincidence.

I think I would have preferred the tower to be on the south pad as opposed to the north pad. It would fill up the block a little more and give the Wawanesa building a little room to breathe.

I would expect the reasoning being that the original north tower was the taller of the two proposed buildings, thus making it easier for it to be the taller, single tower.

Yeah me too. I wonder what kind of structural/geotechnical gymnastics they needed to do for this to work.

It seems as if they’ve cancelled the other tower? Or maybe added one floor to the hotel?

Did they though? It’s either the same size or, apparently, 1 floor taller Than originally envisioned

Was supposedly a 27 storey and a 17 storey tower originally

So from 44 storeys of development it’s now downsized to possibly just 28?

Unfortunately, The answer you gave was what I have come to expect.
Maybe its time to write this off and get someone else to build it?
Northland seems to not care, no penalties either.

There are workmen visible in the mornings, and an excavator showed up there in the last couple days. I agree it seems like only a token effort. When Wawanesa was going up, it had dozens of workers on site from 06:00 sharp, six days a week and seven days per week during the final sprint.
