Cancer Center Groundbreaking Vid

This vid about the cancer center groundbreaking seems to show at least one new rendering (:31) that I hadn't seen before from the new park:

(I work in 5640 S Ellis, so I'll probably have some nice updates on this once they finally knock down accelerator... They were supposed to a while ago).
Thank you! It looks amazing!

Helping to Pay for UChicago Medicine Expansion

The following will help pay for UChicago Medicine's expansion, including new buildings:

According Fitch, UChicago paid $250 million for Advent Health's 4 hospitals in the western suburbs and expects to receive an additional $1 billion in revenue annually in return.

" UChicago Medicine's total operating revenue measured nearly $3 billion in audited fiscal 2022 (June 30 FYE). The planned acquisition of AdventHealth's Chicagoland assets will add nearly $1 billion in operating revenue to the system."

"The acquisition of AdventHealth's Chicagoland assets includes a purchase price of approximately $250 million."

UChicago has posted milestone dates and other information regarding the New Engineering and Science Building project. No renderings of design plans, but it does include an interesting Site Plan. Looks like they're planning to attach the NESB to the Michelson Center to the west and will feature a pedestrian passageway to the east that centers the Fermi Memorial Sculpture.

That first link doesn't seem to be working (any more). The site plan is interesting. Interesting that it will run right up to, or connect with, Michelson.

Block Club confirms a rumor I heard a while back from a friend at U Chicago:

Quote:
The families of construction workers who were killed and critically hurt after falling from a University of Chicago construction site this month are suing the project’s general contractor and a subcontractor, saying they didn’t take proper safety precautions to prevent the accident.

David O’Donnell, 27, of south suburban Oak Forest, was killed June 6 after falling from scaffolding at the site of the UChicago’s future cancer center near Maryland and 56th streets. Another man, 36-year-old Jeffrey Spyrka, was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition.
This is why it’s all core for now. RIP to the workers, shame to see something like this happen. Also apparently the design process for some of the internal systems was way behind schedule, so they delay was probably necessary anyways.

They took down all the trees in the Courtyard

Also, there's a humorous cat and mouse game happening, due the the closure of the sidewalk on the west side of Ellis north of ERC. Since the main entrance to ERC is mid-block (including the elevators), and a lot of people come from the North, everybody is crossing Ellis midblock. Seems like they didn't attempt to get permission to put a temporary crosswalk there, so to combat all the crossing, they put some barriers trying to block the place to walk the street. Of course everybody just walks over, or around them...

On a different note, looks like something is happening here again:
