I'll be coming to Edmonton (well, St. Albert) next week for about a week. I'll be visiting my sister, and doing some work at the same time. I'm excited to come. It's been 7 years since my last visit.

I'm looking for some food recommendations (I eat everything), and cool places to walk around. I'm super unfamiliar with Edmonton, but I did walk along Whyte Avenue the last time I was there, and enjoyed it. Any other streets or neighbourhoods like that would be great.

Thanks!

Whyte, 104st from Jasper to Rogers Place, 124st from Jasper to 109av., Ritchie (smaller area to walk), Cool historic houses around Alexander circle, Garneau near 89ave South of the high level bridge.

Coffee - Rosewood on RHW, Coffee Bureau on Jasper/105st

Asian - Wasabi or Shoyu(sushi) - Yungshang (Chinese noodle etc.)

Red Star (my personal local and must chill in), The Common, Next Act, Sugarbowl - food, drinks, not to be missed.

La Petite Iza (next to Sugarbowl) - awesome outdoor raised patio for skyline shots

Dalla on Rice Howard Way nice causal trattoria and cool area for some CBD shots

Little Brick - cute little neighbourhood gem - http://littlebrick.ca

Take this:

Looking forward to seeing Edmonton through your lens/perspective.

Wow. Thanks for the recommendations. Hopefully, I'll be able to hit a fraction of the places suggested.

Meh, we have good food here and don't need to be on any lists to prove it.

Disagree. These lists are somewhat important for the national image and reputation.

The list of Canada's 100 Best Restaurants of 2024 was revealed on Monday with Edmonton failing to earn a spot.

Every year, Canada's 100 Best magazine releases its lists for top choices in Canada for best overall restaurants, best new restaurants and best bars.

The magazine's choice for top five restaurants in Canada in 2024 are:

Mon Lapin - Montreal, QC
Eludis - Toronto, ON
Alo - Toronto, ON
20 Victoria - Toronto, ON
Langdon Hall - Cambridge, ON

While Edmonton was left out of the picture for Canada's 100 Best Restaurants, three bars managed to earn a spot on the list with Clementine sitting at number 33, Bar Bricco at 40 and Baiju & Little Hong King at number 50.

Last year Biera and RGE RD made its way to spot number 84 and 89 of Canada's 100 Best Restaurants while Clementine ranked 25th among the best bars in the country.

The judging panel was made up of 150 professionals in the industry. Each judge is required to evaluate restaurants based on service, décor, depth of the cellar and, most importantly, food quality. Judges must also rate three restaurants outside of their home region.

This year welcomed 20 new restaurants to the list.

'This weekend also marks the first weekend of the new entertainment district at Rice Howard Way, which will be activated on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 12 a.m. from June until September.

Edmontonians can purchase alcohol from restaurants within the district and drink them within a permitted pedestrian-friendly outdoor area.'

Sohi release

We decided to try Slap Shot out and boy oh boy it was amateur hour.

'No cocktails or draft' until 4 (we got there at 3:15) as they didn't have an actual bartender; inside looked cheap and quick.

The waitress, while nice enough, clearly has never served and made ordering and receiving 3 beers agony.

Half of the tables outside were people eating market food.

I give it two months.

How was the interior? Just 'slapped' together with not much different from Northern Chicken's interior or was it fully reno'ed?

This building? Little gritty. But a well known name that will attract people.

I drove by that area a few months ago. On a weekend, the parking lot SE corner of 105A and 101, the site was one massive homeless camp. It was so taken over, cars couldn't safely be parked there. Not seeing the draw to the restaurant site when there have to be dozens and dozens of other vacant options elsewhere downtown that are far more... family friendly?
