Totally! I've actually experienced those wobbly vomit inducing rides in Santorini.

Regarding Los Angeles and Vegas, it may partly be due to Asian tourists who must stop over or change planes at LAX. But it is definitely locals too. Nobody who has driven between the two cities questions those who prefer to fly (or, hopefully, take HSR).

The busiest route out of Hartsfield Jackson in Atlanta is Orlando. 1.47 million per year. Atlanta-Ft. Lauderdale is 2nd, and Atlanta-Miami is 4th. So if you combine Miami and Ft. Lauderdale I guess that's how that came up with that as Atlanta's busiest route. (3rd for Atlanta, by the way, is LaGuardia).
