Seems like they call it a stiffleg derrick crane.

Assume the yellow crane will remove the main tower crane. And then the red one will disassemble the yellow one.

I guess with the derrick crane it's possible they might need a full road closure? Not sure what the rules are with CoV.

Tower crane no. 1 was dismantled on June 7, 8 , 9 and 10, 2023, that was a Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
I wouldn't think they would close Nelson St. for 3 straight work week days. Maybe just flaggers stopping traffic when lowering parts?

I guess those things out the side of the building will be used to secure the tower crane jib?

They’re called static lines. They’re used when tag lines aren’t practical/possible. They guide the load down the side of the building.

The stiffleg derrick crane should be in business by the end of the day, at the moment (1:27pm) the jib is still tethered to the tower crane.
Lots of man hours putting it all together. I think a helicopter would have been cheaper. I will post its assembling tomorrow night.

The stiffleg derrick is now freestanding.

They're already prepping the Tower Crane.

Top climbers left about an hour ago, just a couple of workers still up there. I'm thinking the crane will be coming down on Monday or Tuesday, tomorrow? maybe.

Yikes, the opulence of the structure makes it all the more jarring the fact that no one seemed to have thought about designing the end wall - the obvious focal point of such a linear space. It's like putting a plastic handle on a $10,000 knife

Even any of these dated-looking shapes below would've been better:

Yup - I mentioned that when the glazing was installed - a ridiculous oversight.
