Sherwood Elementary School

The new school will be welcomed as the old Sherwood School has gone well past its use. It will be raised upon the completion of the new school.

UPEI Faculty of Medicine

The building is slowly coming together. The brick and glass is going in with interior work in progress.

I see the land behind the Calvary Church in Charlottetown finally sold after many years of being on the market. I wonder what will be going in there.

This was found on the city web site. If this the case, it's the worst option. Housing on this property, and the property behind it, should be paramount. Wake up city hall!

I disagree. Charlottetown is a major tourism destination. Tourists who arrive via EV with require charging points. I know this gas station. It is unique and although perhaps not historic, is certainly representative of a certain bygone era. If it is being donated to the city, I could see them setting up a tourism information spot in the building, perhaps with a small coffee shop. It could be a bit of an attraction in it's own right.

Adding to this that the site is within walking distance to downtown - so while EV's are charging it would be very easy not only to provide services at this site, but have some overflow business to the local area as well.

Humm, maybe you're right! I never thought about tourists. Afterall, that's what Charlottetown has been playing on its fiddle for decades so it would be fitting!

Ridiculously high property taxes on multi-residential buildings and rent caps set 1/2 of actual inflation rate in PEI? Maybe developers don’t want to build for a loss? It does not sound very enticing for development.

I agree. This property is perfect for housing, along with the property behind it. I don't understand what good it'd do keeping it. It creates a very large dead zone, which is a shame.

I get historical preservation as I very much agree with preserving history, but the old Irving building is not deserving of preservation.

Yes, I mentioned that in an earlier post. They are a week behind. Usually last year and years previous, they issued that weeks permits on every Friday. Today the permits for the week of the 24th are posted. Should be for this last week of the 31st.
I'm not sure why the delay. Overload, maybe!

The Guardian

Major upgrade coming to the Eastlink Centre.
Arena will load from the top-down and extra seats coming to boost capacity to 5,200.

The $30 million upgrade will add:

• Add 60 feet to the exterior four walls of the arena.

• Add a new Zamboni and a new ice plant.

• Raise the seating capacity from 3,700 to 5,200 people.

• Add three rows of seats around the top part of the facility.

• Build a new upper-level concourse.

• Put more than $1 million in upgrades into the Charlottetown Islanders dressing room.

Still nothing on all the work going on just past the old KFC in Stratford. Someone said it might be a new Metro store but nothing confirmed.

Red Shores in Charlottetown is adding 9,700 sqft to its operation…a mix of new gaming floor space, eating/drinking, etc. Also heard that there’s talk of a hotel at some point. Eastlink Centre is also looking into adding a second level around the rink to increase seating and introduce top-down loading.

This is a significant upgrade! I know there was talk at some point of building a new area, this is not obviously going to be in lieu of a new arena. I’m surprised that the price tag is so low though. They’re essentially rebuilding the existing arena. Will the islanders still play there next season? Will they play at UPEI temporarily? A lot of questions.
