I was just down that way on the lake front trail a bit ago and noticed the tower crane is going up. I couldn’t get much of a pic from the lake front trail flyover though.

Woohooo!!! I had a question about the tower cranes used in Chicago. For the taller buildings, most of the tower cranes are painted yellow. Yet for those highrises built in say W. Loop, the cranes are all colors but yellow. I appreciate that yellow is likely for visibility, and that the color is for cranes that go to a certain height, and it applies to concrete construction. Most of the recently constructed office towers using steel had red luffing cranes. Anyhow just curious.

I remember the neighbors being pissed as hell about a construction timeline for the Spire being 5 years back in 2008. How pissed are they that this one could be 12-15years for these two towers?

I would assume they would have to use Dusablle Park for staging in the tower two construction? Would this mean we won't get the park completed until tower 2 is complete?

DuSable Park must be completed before tower 1 gets its occupancy permits, or so is my understanding. I believe 2027 for the park.

I imagine the Tower 2 site should be sufficient for staging. Then maybe a barge for the south tower staging.

Either they can let them work longer hours and weekends or M-F business hours for more years... Can't have it both ways!

^ Because they are now digging down the site for underground parking levels.

The waler beam and sheet piling holds back the soil at that level, but when you remove the soil on the backside you don't need them anymore.

Chicago Spire was planned for four stories of underground parking, but it looks like Related is only going to build two. So the bottom of the core will end up at Level -4 and the lowest basement will be at Level -2.

I'm guessing they will cut it down to the elevation of the lowest parking level (roughly halfway down) and then leave the rest in place/backfill around the core.
