That's way shorter than I ever imagined! Now if Bermuda were an affordable destination to stay in, this would make for a great jaunt.

BermudAir increases service to Halifax Stanfield International Airport, citing strong demand

BermudAir increases service to Halifax Stanfield International Airport, citing strong demand

By Dan Ahlstrand

Posted Jun 13, 2024 09:46:11 AM. Last Updated Jun 13, 2024 11:40:52 AM.

Bermuda’s national airline, BermudAir, is doubling down on its Halifax service, adding a second weekly flight between Bermuda and Halifax Stanfield International Airport. Starting July 10.

The airline will offer flights on both Wednesdays and Saturdays, in response to what the airline has called high demand since the route’s launch in May.

“The response to this route has been remarkable,” Adam Scott, Founder and CEO of BermudAir, said. “Our inaugural flights were basically full, and bookings have been solid ever since. After a ten-year absence of direct flights, this shows both the opportunity and demand on this route. We’re happy to help fill that previous service gap for Bermuda residents and visitors.”

The new Wednesday flight will depart Bermuda at 8:30 a.m. AST and arrive in Halifax at 10:55 a.m. The return flight will leave Halifax at 11:40 a.m. and touch down in Bermuda at 1:55 p.m.

The airline said the schedule mirrors the airline’s Saturday service and is designed for convenience and catering to business and leisure travellers.

“We’re ensuring that in addition to providing more frequency every week, the timings are convenient for travellers,” Scott added. “Feedback from our guests indicates that the combination of this timing and a short two-and-a-half-hour flight works well for both business and leisure travel.”

A second weekly non-stop flight will expand the opportunities for Halifax and Bermuda, the press release reads. The flights will also include over long weekends.

“It’s great to see the popularity of this new service, and we congratulate BermudAir on a successful launch in Halifax,” said Joyce Carter, President and CEO of Halifax International Airport Authority (HIAA) said.

BermudAir inaugurated its Canadian routes in May, with direct flights to Toronto beginning on May 17 and Halifax on May 25 with an aim to bolster travel connections and economic ties between the regions.

United Airlines will continue its YHZ-EWR service year-round switching from 2x daily to 1x daily starting end of October.

Combined Star Alliance partners Air Canada and United will have 2x daily YHZ-EWR during the winter.

That’s great. Prices to fly to New York have been really affordable with all the capacity lately.

Curious where they're going to add this "new floor" or if they're simply going to extend the existing US departures check in area to the front of the airport, filling in the high ceilings in the arrivals area.

If it's a new connections hall, isn't it going in that area behind gates 26/27/28?

I feel like (and correct me if I'm wrong) there has already been some work started in that area before you head downstairs to customs? There's a lot of stuff boarded up.

Do we know if there are any plans to renovate the area of the airport that's immediately to the left of the entry point on first floor opposite Tim Hortons? Currently that area seems quite old compared to the right side of the entry point on first floor opposite Tim Hortons.

Do you mean 2nd floor? This part of the terminal between gate 22 and 28 will be expanded significantly when they decide to build the new terminal pier, which is likely going to be sooner than later.

On Friday I was watching Airline Videos Live, which is based out of LAX but travels around to other airports from time to time to cover takeoffs and landings. They were at Logan in Boston that day and commented on the number of AC Express and Porter Dash-8s traveling to and from Canada, saying that is an aircraft they don't normally see anywhere they go. Hopefully its days are numbered. They are supposed to be back at Logan on Sunday afternoon. On Friday I was quite surprised at the volume of arrivals and departures there, it was almost nonstop and extremely busy. Must be a handful for ATC.
