I think Acey referred to parked planes due to a pilot shortage, so probably quite a few?

Pasco's announcement to employees said about 100 crew members being permanently laid off in YYC as a result of this decision. Encore has about half of their fleet of Q400s currently parked due to insufficient pilots. My guess is Encore is hoping to pick up some of the laid off Pasco crews to allow themselves to re-activate some of their Q400s to cover these routes.

I'll count but I'm pretty sure it's nowhere near half currently parked.

Planespotters says 32 of 47 tails are in service with 15 parked, which seems roughly correct.

This looks to me like some combination of:
- WS being confident that they'll be able to glacially bring more Q's back online with the new Encore pilot contract
- The Sunwing merger allowing mainline to be able to take over even more Encore flying to places like YLW/YQU/YMM/YXE/YXR which frees up Encores

Encore currently has a plethora of first officers but captains are getting run into the ground.

Hopefully some of the Saab get repainted back into Pacific Coastal colours and replace some of the 19 seaters Beechcraft on the coast. As a passenger the Saab is a much nicer ride.

Hopefully the YYC crew end up with WS.

Sucks that the Pasco deal didn't get extended, would've liked to see link expand into Montana/ Idaho, although I suppose it's still possible with Encore.

Really low pax on tonight's Deer Lake but it seems like an extra or something? It doesn't run on subsequent Saturdays I'm pretty sure.

YDF's normal op days are Fridays and Sundays until the end of June. Not sure why they added the extra segment last night.

For some reason that Saturday flight has been loaded since YDF was first announced and is the only Saturday flight for the entire season.

First Thursday of the full Europe op. Edelweiss, Condor, 2x Discover, DUB, LHR x2, BCN, CDG, FCO, AMS.

I recall saying all it takes is one of the earlier Europes to go late for us to be screwed... so on the first flight of the season Edelweiss is 2 hours late. We don't have enough gates tonight for this to go smoothly. We'll see how it plays out.

Yikes. And the new international terminal building hasn't even reached it's 8th birthday yet.

Lack of foresight, bad design, or a bit of both?

Can’t they put one of the flights in C gates? It’s not like the passengers need to be isolated.

https://aviationweek.com/air-transpo...port-authority

This article mentions that YYC is pursing additional Transborder destinations and specifically mentioned PHL, MSY and BWI as targets.

Of those 3, I’m guessing PHL is the most likeliest. I believe WS has already attempted MSY previously.

Not really, no. Those aircraft all come in with international passengers, which means they would need to be offloaded at the international terminal first, fully emptied (ie nobody including groomers working on board), then towed to a domestic C gate, brought in to the gate by a ground crew, etc.

That takes a lot of time - preventing an on-time turnaround of the aircraft. And it costs a lot of money.
