This morning, podium well underway.
This is a constraining construction site. Logistics and planning will be key to a safe and productive site.

7 months of construction, Oct 11, 2023 to May 12, 2024

Pics by me today:

Note the indents for curtain wall panels.
Interface with Phase 1 podium is non-existent.

I think it connects to the amenities in Tower A from Tower C through a skybridge (level 7) like the connection between the office tower and Tower A

I meant architecturally. It'll leave the protruding part on the old podium exposed

I guess they didn't want a solid podium between all the different towers on Hornby. Hopefully that black element won't look too cheap like that tower near Brentwood.

Design Rationale:

Quote:
At the podium, the tower supergrid slips into a glass field and seems to float independently from not only the street but also from the adjacent podia. An external louvered brise soleil is used as a break between Towers C and D while it also connects to the louver system at the base of Tower A. Continuous glazing is used as a “reveal” at the joint between A and C.

From the UDP minutes

Quote:
A panel member noted the podium to the interface and other buildings appear as completely different developments. There are different horizontals, different glazing conditions, different setbacks and balconies crashing into each other. More thought should have gone into how the building comes together with the base of the other buildings, especially on the Hornby street side and lane side. Another panel member noted the materials and detailing at the interface between the two podia on the Hornby frontage needs more design study, noting that it’s a necessity to connect the two buildings visually. However some panel members agreed that the proposed tower meets the ground with distinction and that the difference in podium expression was acceptable.

That rendering hides the "temporary" north wall on the Phase 1 podium.
Those gray aluminum panels to the left of the orange line (which I added to mark the podium edge) were probably meant to be temporary.

The south edge of that overhang is finished in black panels.

Does anyone know why the light strip on tower 1 turns off at 10pm but other buildings downtown leave theirs on? It looks cool when crossing the Burrard bridge.

Maybe there's glare into the units that have the lights next to them?
