That may happen within about a decade or so. It seems like Chicago has slowed down recently when it comes to new proposals and construction products, the only one that comes in the top of my head right now is the Tribune East proposal in River North.
What will really push Miami into the level of Chicago and LA is expanding it's mass transit system, starting with the Metrorail North extension into Hard Rock Stadium, and the Tri Rail project along the FEC ROW that Brightline currently uses for it's service to Orlando, as well as MIA introducing more international carriers fro Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and especially from Asia and Australia.
Finally, more supertalls by getting rid of that stupid height limits imposed by the FAA, and drafting new flight routes away from Downtown Miami north of 14th St and south of SW 15th Rd, so Downtown Miami can grow into a commercial behemoth similar to Midtown Manhattan and the Chicago Loop.
