0C and partly cloudy in Moncton at 1 PM.

At least it isn't snowing like in Nova Scotia.

A few drone shots of our first snow yesterday, screenshot from an FB video.

ME HOOSE!

The other side of my neighbourhood (it's across Barter's Hill, a switchback road plowed through the houses, so it's very separate in lifestyle from my area today).

And moving into the nicer areas to the east.

Light drizzle after hours of rain. It’s decent for a wet day.

Unhappy

One good thing about the desert is that rain very rarely will ruin your outdoor plans. My youngest daughter's backyard birthday party in late April was 16 degrees and dry. The following weekend was the neighbour's and it was 6 and rained the whole day.

My oldest's is August. But I never set a date more than a few days in advance for the backyard party for the kids on the street. I was always planning on having two parties for those kids and some from school. Plus, it makes up for those who couldn't come to the first one. Well, first day I planned it was forecasted to rain so I said we'll push it to the following day which had 30% chance. Well we did it and it rained, forcing the kids inside.

First week of Sept. was the plan for party number two. Both days I had in mind had rain forecasted so I pushed it to the following week. My plan was the Tuesday but I didn't annouce it. Sure enough it rained. So we finally pulled it off in gorgeous weather on the Thursday. Basically, the 4 or 5 days I had it planned, which had to be a weekday, and during a certain week because my family spent most the summer up north, it rained, but on the other days that we couldn't do it, it was dry. It was extremely frustrating.

Well our 4 day summer last week was great. Held an impromptu backyard Halloween party. And attended another event on Lakeshore. Didn't think I'd be sweating so much in late October. And on the Saturday, it was a nice 8 degrees and sunny at 10 for the Milton Main St. trick or treating. But the previous week, there was another Halloween event in Dundas but the weather was total garbage so I didn't want to drive the 40-45 minutes for that. And the Thursday before Thanksgiving also rained in just the evening so that curtailed my plans for the Rockton Fair. Probably didn't rain too much but didn't want to drive 50 minutes and risk a washout.

Anyway, two of us dressed up as monsters and came out of the shed to try and eat some children. I set aside some water balloons for them to throw but learned a lesson. Should remove all other objects lying around beforehand like juice boxes, water bottles, plastic bins, etc.

Halloween night was mild last year but it rained earlier so everything was wet. This year it was about 5 but dry, which was preferable to last year.

Of course this kinda thing happens from time to time but still, it feels early this year. Normals for today are 10/2. Bedford Basin weather station dropped to -.08 this morning at 6am. First freeze on the basin. By 8am it was -2. At 9am +1.0. Forecast high is 4 in full sunshine.

One of those weather record accounts posted that the high at Shearwater was only +1.7 on November 1 and this was the coldest November 1 on record in the city, looking at records going back 150 years (probably not at Shearwater but going to other older weather stations for older dates).

The trend seems to be somewhat warmer weather overall with more extreme events, or at least this past year seems like it had a lot of freak extreme cold and drought/rain events.

It’s that time of year!

My tree is still too big and ugly af. I’ve got to get a pencil one as I had to move half the living room furniture to the office just to get the tree to fit somewhere sensible lol

That's a nice looking tree, and I have no problem with it being up this time of year... may as well enjoy for a couple of months it if it's your thing!

I do wonder how you keep your cat away from it (or maybe you don't... lol). Our first cat, who passed last year, just looked at it as climbing furniture, chock full of cat toys (otherwise known as ornaments). He was just fascinated with every aspect of it and you couldn't keep him away, even after stuffing the bottom of the tree with wrapped, empty boxes to keep him from getting under (to climb). It was funny and irritating at the same time.

This past summer we adopted a kitten from a rescue, and she seems to be even wilder, and is also incredibly intelligent (i.e. able to figure out any barrier you might put in her way), so we're debating the tree thing this year...

We lost a tree one year too as a result of a viscious cat attack.

Our solution was to keep the door to the living room closed and ban cat access.

Currently -2C and sunny in Moncton at 9 AM, going up to +8C this afternoon.

Not an option for us, as the living room does not close off from the rest of the house.

I may put up the bare tree to see what she does with it, but I think I already know the answer to that. Might just be a tree-less holiday season this year… we’ll have to see how it goes.

On the weather side of things: It’s been mild but somewhat damp these past couple of days in Halifax, after last week’s snow killed off most everything in the flowerbeds. Looks like a bit of a ‘blah’ week ahead. Ardee has been covering it well, so I don't really have anything to add.
