Like madog222 said, nope.
But I also didn't see any salt, sand or gravel.

Where are you getting -5 from? The forecast is -12 with a minus -20 windchill on top of that. That's fricken cold anywhere in Canada. Obviously not as cold as the rest Western Canada but lots not skew the actual conditions.

Absolutely fascinating what it's going on in North America though. Some places in the southern US are going from +20C to under -10C in the span of a day or 2. That map of the Great Lakes blocking the cold is just outrageous also. Just stopping it dead in its tracks. It's still going to get damn cold though, just not to the same extent, highs of -7 and lows of -12. Actually similar to what Vancouver/Victoria are getting, same thing going on there with the ocean blocking some of the cold.

Snowy, blowy and cold. Actually, the morning wasn't too bad but then around lunch time the temperature plummeted and the blizzard began.

Thursday's high at Vancouver Harbour was 5 C, the low was -6 C.

It's comfortably above freezing finally. First slip-free walk to the gym in a while.

Edit: it's mild, it's Friday. Fuck yeah, baby, it's a great day!

It's like a day next spring. Strong sun and actually warm.

All that cold is on its way, though, I'm sure. Hopefully weakens enough to not get us below -10

Snow covered palm trees in Vancouver. This perfectly encapsulates the schizophrenic personality of British California.

Currently -6C in Moncton at 9 AM and sunny. Storm #3 arrives tomorrow afternoon, and will be a clone of storm #2 with snow, rain and strong winds. We're only expecting about 5 cm here before the transition.

Curiously, there is a storm #4 expected by the middle of next week. Usually the conveyor belt peters out after three nor'easters, but, the storm track is following the jet stream along the lower edge of the polar vortex currently ensconced over continental North America, and, until the vortex budges, the freight train of storms will likely continue for us.

I saw some recently planted palm trees in New West this morning that were covered with Canadian Tire paper bags. I'm not sure if that will help them or not, but I guess it's worth a try!

I was in that same area last night; looks like you were around Gateway Station, while I was one station away at Surrey Central. I took SkyTrain over there so I didn't have to deal with driving on the Pattullo Bridge, but aside from it being cold there was no snow, as your photo shows. Downtown New West had 1cm or less at that point, but even then the ice was enough to make walking treacherous and I saw one car struggling to climb a hill just north of Columbia St.

Mix of sun and cloud and 4 degrees at just before 11am. The envy of many, even if just for a few days.

-36 with -45WC here in Canmore. Most ski hills are closed.

Tomorrow they are saying we may hit a -50WC.

I am thinking of going to BBQ at our apartment communal outside pit with a sombrero.

-12c right now in Vancouver. We'll hit a high of -8c today. Pretty brutal.

The alley hill behind my apartment is pure ice. Even with 4wd and snow tires, it's almost impassable, and it's the only way in or out of my parkade. There's no way I'm taking my car out today.

If you're in the western parts of Metro Vancouver, stay home. I can't imagine it'll be much better today. Besides the main thoroughfares, every street is a sheet of ice.

-5C with a wind chill of -13 and overcast. Pretty boring winter day.

Low of -7C with a wind chill of -16 this morning. EC missing hourly data again at 5AM so the day will not exist in those amateurs data.
Same with Keg River who recorded the first -50C in Alberta since 2004 but the data won't be there because of missing hourly observations. Completely unacceptable.

The warmspot was Pangnirtung, NU at 7.2C. YES that is CORRECT. Warmest place in the country is in Nunavut. Out of all things I've seen weather related, this might be the most shocking. It is extremely rare for Nunavut to be warmest territory any month but much more so in the middle of January. Normal high of -23C, normal low of -31C.

That's a 30 degree temperature anomaly.

For some perspective, that would be the equivalent of:

A 29 degree high in Toronto
A 25 degree high in Montreal
A 19 degree high in Winnipeg
A 37 degree high in Vancouver

....in January!

It is not quite right as places up north have a much higher standard deviation on average.

Doesn't take anything from how incredible the mildness was in Nunavut.
