Some of the render angles are so sweet. Although I'm not liking the little cube sticking out of the base that much, the transition from the plaza into the tower is pretty slick. I can't wait to see this go forward.

Am I dense for not noticing this on other buildings...but what's with the air tunnels?
It's kind of a recent phenomenon in skyscrapers (if you're referring to the holes in the building that let air through). I don't really understand them when they aren't there for air power. It's not as though the building couldn't structurally take wind loads. I'm confused also.

For skyscrapers, the wind load is usually the critical load that influences the design the most. Anything that can reduce the wind load can reduce the required strength and thus cost, most effectively.
the air tunnels means its an eco-tower. Basically they funnel the air to turbines and power the place aswell as air condition it. The world's first carbon zero skyscraper (and supertall) is based on this method, currently being pioneered in the Pearl River Tower, Guangzhou (1013ft):
