Bees would've survived millennia on early blooming native plants, but those are in decline, especially in urban areas. I don't think there are many native flowering plants in a typical lawn (which isn’t native either).

Realistically the best approach is a no mow yard, period. One that is full of native plants and well behaved outsiders. I do think there is a generational divide on this one. Boomers tend to love perfectly manicured grass lawns, younger generations let things go a little more wild.

Good question about the grass. My neighbour, who got into lawn care last year, wants to fertilize in March. Right now he has the greenest lawn on the street. It's not green, green, but has more than anyone else. Surely because he fertilized so many times last year, which also meant quite a few weeds grew and he torched some spots of his lawn because it was too warm for fertilizer.

Foggy, misty and mild. Went up into some Canadian Shield (Kawartha Highlands). Not much in the way of snow up there, which I have to think is pretty rare for the start of March.

Still some pockets of snow though.

Very foggy and muddy on the Happy Valley trail near New Scotland, Ontario. 40F/4C.

On the way there and back, I drove through Weston again:

More interesting than looking at Mobster Mansions in Woodbridge surrounding the National Golf Club of Canada or random unionized construction workers homes around Rutherford Road and Clarence Street.

Explored another local creek called Morrison Creek. Once again, creek meanders and meanders. Within a 5 minute span you have to cross 4 foot bridges.

There are just so many creeks and valleys in Oakville. If the creeks actually held fish like the two rivers do then I think I would spend 24/7 wading all of them. They have the odd minnow here and there but I think I need to go check out the mouths of these creeks in April and May to see if rainbrow trout, white suckers and common carp enter during their spawns.

The City removed the snow from my street last night. First time so far this winter. It looks like an airport runway to me now

9C and mainly sunny. Cloudier early on but cleared up nicely after 1PM.

The very little snow that remains is in the shadiest areas and from piles.

Low of 2C.

The warmspot was Windsor, ON at 14.3C

Warmest low was Yarmouth, NS at 5.7C.

9C and mainly overcast until about 2PM. At which point the sky cleared up. The cloud cover kept the temperature in the high single digit rather than the low or even mid teens. It's early March so cannot complain for that.

Low of 0C last night. Very dense fog. SSH would have loved.

The warmspot was Point Pelee, ON at 22.4C. Looks like the got warmer than Windsor in between hours. Obviously that is the warmest temperature in Canada this year.

The warmest low was Goderich, ON at 7.3C.

-18 going down to -25 tonight. -13 tomorrow then the temps rise above 0.

Roads were hell this morning, light snow last night put a nice glaze on everything. Drive to the office was only 10 min longer but 15 cars in the ditch on my way in. where you may only see 1 in.

+8C and partly cloudy in Moncton at noontime - a delightful day.

Things will become rainy tomorrow, with a high of +7C, and then the shite will start flowing down the tube the following day. Temperatures will fall on Thursday, with freezing rain transitioning into snow that day. Maybe 10 mm of freezing rain and up to 25 cm of snow.

Winter isn't over for us yet.

13C and sunny early on but clouded over. Very mild for early March. Awesome seeing people out with only a light jacket.

Low of 0C this morning. MASSIVE difference between YUL and downtown. The downtown station registered a low of 7C.

The warmspot was Welland-Pelham, ON at 20.8C.

Warmest low was Delhi, ON at 10.4C

^ Foggy morning here also, moreso over the lake. One of those days where it's hard to tell where the lake ends and the sky begins.

Beautiful day, 16 and sunny. Not sure it will get my warmer at my house, as there is a cool breeze off the lake.

A Montana low that affected the Prairies is moving off to the east. Snowfall was less than anticipated in the Red River Valley, YWG receiving only about 3cm of snowfall, though totals were higher to the north and much higher to the west, with Brandon unofficially receiving about 30cm.

Any moisture is welcome as it was a very dry winter, YWG receiving less than 30% of its average winter (Dec-Feb) precipitation, though both October and November were wet.

Cold and blustery in the wake of the system. The week ahead looks seasonally cold but temps should recover to seasonal (-3C) or above by the weekend. At noon, sunny, -10C, gusty winds from the WNW , windchill of -21. It's a nice day inside. Huge temperature gradient regionally, Minneapolis reached 74F yesterday and some locations in Iowa broke the 80F mark. Meanwhile, farther west, temps are struggling to reach -20C in much of Sask. and Alta.
