I think naming it for Guy Lafleur is a pretty good bet.
Maurice Richard wasn't really a good fit, except for the fact that it's the 50 and he was the first to score 50 goals in 50 games.
Richard only played for Montreal teams, was from Montreal and had no relationship to our regions.
Other than maybe a few games he may have played against the Junior Senators before he made the jump to the NHL.
The Autoroute Guy-Lafleur makes way more sense. Of course there is the number 50 for him too.
Lafleur was from Thurso and the highway links the Outaouais and his hometown to Montreal where he had all of his greatest achievements.
You are correct that most autoroutes are named for politicians though the A-40 is named for singer-songwriter Félix Leclerc.
