The article specifically said that a grocery chain was interested. Perhaps Safeway, Sprouts or Whole Foods?
That would seem to rule out Target. Especially since Target has abandoned the ‘City Target’ format and has zero plans to build new stores in that format. A Target downtown could be neat - but they now want to build full size stores in urban areas - I.e. multi-level full size stores in Chicago & Stamford, CT. The closest we have to an urban Target format is the store @16th St & Camelback - which was an experimental format.
But awesome news - not sure if we could expect them to break ground this year - if so that would be the 7th major DT project to break ground this year!
Also - an Intercontinental Hotel in Phoenix?? That’s awesome news.
