Looks like we have a 4-story structure in there if the rendering is correct. That seems to be the highest to me.

While overall unimpressive, I'm sure these buildings will serve their functions and it really doesn't look all that bad. Not much interaction with pedestrians, but again, they are state buildings. All in all, an improvement with what's there at least from a visual standpoint.

While we might someday end up with some of the new buildings and streets in that rendering, the actual new hospital is rather unimpressive, relatively forgettable, and mostly hidden from view. Maybe that's ideal for the needs of the patients, who knows. But from the outside looking in it doesn't scream, "MD Anderson of the brain" as Kirk Watson liked to describe it.

The actual plans are considerably different from the vision in the report. I'm sure it will still be nice enough, but I've lost hope for a meaningfully different ASH campus like in the original vision from the old rendering/report.

Yeah, that's rather bland. Is this the final proposal for everything? It just seems like a modern version of some of their wards. My mom worked there in the 90's and let me tell you...that's far far better than what it is now.

Someone maybe needs to help the woman with the buzzcut tho....

The guy watering the plants looks depressed, this bland building is not helping.

I just took a closer look at my own link and I take back every bad thing I ever said about this place. Rotate around in the 3d view and drink in the awesomeness of that amazing baguette storage room.

what tf happened to landscape design in the past 10 years? especially in public places. seen some really unfunctional spaces and the trend seems to be increasing

I just saw the following site plan filing pop up in a search on N Lamar (6416 N LAMAR BLVD):

JCI Threadgill's

The applicant proposes an office/retail and multifamily development with all associated improvements.


Has this been mentioned anywhere?

I was out riding my bike several weeks ago and passed through the Threadgill's parking lot. That's actually the best shortcut from my street to Lamar Blvd so I see that place from every angle. On that particular day Eddie Wilson's wife was out in the parking lot and she told me the place would be bulldozed and replaced with apartments. My heart sank, of course.

Now there's a fence around it. I assume that means demolition is coming soon.

It also means my shortcut to Lamar is blocked!

I believe any building Demo permit triggers a review by the HLC or staff. I don't think they can sneak one by the City - except for that Jumpolin Pinata shop fiasco a few years ago.

This is one I might actually be inclined to fight for. At least the original gas station building. It is truly historic! The site is a good size, but probably too narrow for a standard Texas Donut. If it is combined with some neighbors, it would be viable and could probably be designed to retain the original building in front. It would probably take a benevolent developer / music fan that is willing to take a loss for the sake of the music industry and history of the place. This one hurts! If it is lost, it will truly be the day that Austin changed for the worst, at least for me.

Burnet and Rockwood, west side of Burnet. Bunch of slabs there now from light industrial warehouses.
