Living there has gotta suck. The noise level from I-35 at night can't be pleasant, and I doubt that house has any sort of effective sound proofing.

It doesn't even have a roof! There was a fire a couple years ago, and the last time I checked, it was still boarded up. I don't think anybody has lived there for years now, unless they recently repaired it and moved back in. Kinda doubt it though.

Unless that picture is really really really old, it looks like it has a roof to me...

That house has been burned out and uninhabitable for a long time.

It's an old photo I took in early 2009.

But that is the house that the owners are refusing to sell, right? Why the hell are they refusing if it is burned out?

Yep, that is the house. No idea why they wouldn't want to sell.

SOunds like a good story for the Stateman writer.

I remember back when there was going to be a mall on that site ( yeah, that should send some heads spinning!), the matriach of that familiy lived there. She was quite old and simply did not want to leave her house.
I am sure we all have elderly relatives that we can relate that to. She seemed like she had lived there her whole life and inteneded to finish her life there. Without going into personal stories, I'll just say: I can relate.... and understand.
Now, is the question. The property may be intestate or tied up otherwise legally. There is also a possibility that folks have worked around the property so long now that no one is now willing to pay the family what they have held out for. There are lots of possibiliites, all of which are legitimate.

So.... Ms Shonda Novak.... get on it ! Inquiring minds want to know!

MLK Day stroll through the city and took some pics downtown.

3ElevenBowie

Gables

JW Marriott

It seems they are taking part of the ramp away as its either fallen or they cut into it. Also they are digging into it to put up the side walls.

2nd Street redo

Hyatt is almost done

Cool view of the towers

Skyhouse

Why would they not sell and get some money for these homes. Noisy!!!

The picture entitled "cool view of the towers" is stellar. I love the progression from one to the next.

Just found on the City's planning website an updated set of plans for 7RIO. Files 15 and 16 have the elevations. Don't know but looks plain to me. Sorry I did not link it because I am new at this. I am sure one the regulars can grab it.

On another note, this project appears to not have ground level retail according to files 35-36.

^He's talking about these, and we've seen them. I have those saved already, and the last two numbers in the files are 15 and 16.

Downtown Austin Blog has one of them:

Yeah. I realized that when I opened them. I didn't realize, however, that this project isn't going to have retail.
