Awesome. Someone just grab a steak from the Rig inside and toss it out there. Problem solved.

Digging into Porter's winter schedule, the evening FLL, MCO, RSW all leave at 16:00, with TPA leaving at 16:20. Here's what connects inbound to those - really every domestic destination except YYG and YWG connects to them.

YHZ at 13:48
YEG at 14:28
YYC at 14:39
YVR at 14:57
YFC at 15:00
YQM at 15:00

YWG arrives at 15:12 so only connects to TPA since minimum connection time is 50 minutes. But pushing that a mere five minutes earlier opens up MCO/TPA/RSW. As well, an 08:18 arrival from YHZ connects to the MCO/FLL 09:20 departures that begin mid-December.

Heading north, less options. TPA arrives at 14:20, RSW arrives at 14:57, MCO arrives at 17:12, FLL at 17:55.

YYC at 18:55
YVR at 18:55
YEG at 19:20
YHZ at 19:25
YQM at 20:45

So can't connect to YWG, YYG and YFC, and some are quite lengthy. Seems like southbound connections are timed way better at this point.

So YOW-TQO with AC is really expensive. I’m seeing prices between $1200-1700 round trip whereas going through YYZ is around $600-700 (both AC and WS). If this doesn’t change, they are setting it up for failure, then they’re going to pull the route and blame it on no demand like usual.

Noticed that too. Seems like they're trying to get people to book vacation packages? Picked Dec 14-21 on AC Vacations and the cheapest package is ~$2550 for two people using the TQO flight. If I try to book two round-trip flights for the same dates it's about $1000 more expensive than booking a package.

WestJet mechanics go on strike in shock move, upending travel ahead of long weekend

The Canadian Press
Published 1 hour ago | Updated 14 minutes ago

WestJet airplane mechanics are hitting the picket lines in a surprise move that threatens to disrupt flights for thousands of travellers at the outset of the Canada Day long weekend.

WestJet says Canadians can expect “severe travel disruption” if the abrupt strike is not called off – one day after the airline and Ottawa thought they had averted a work stoppage thanks to a ministerial order for binding arbitration on Thursday.

The second-largest airline in the country says it is again asking for immediate intervention by the federal labour minister and the Canada Industrial Relations Board.

The Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association says its 680 WestJet workers went on strike at 7:30 p.m. ET., arguing that the carrier’s “unwillingness to negotiate with the union made the strike inevitable.”

However, WestJet says that because the country’s labour tribunal is undertaking arbitration to resolve the impasse, a strike gives the union no leverage and amounts to “pure retaliation.”

Earlier this month, the mechanics voted to reject a tentative deal with the Calgary-based airline and issued two strike notices while WestJet sought government intervention.

As of now, YEG-YOW-YEG is the only cancellation.

In other news, another HiFly A343 is currently inbound, arriving around 12:15pm.

Anyone know when TS is going to open up the winter schedule for booking (or it might be already open for all I know). Looking for YOW-YYZ-LIM in the winter. Currently bookable for summer then it stops in October even though LIM flights continue.

Just heard a Chrono 732 flying overhead. Looks like the TiCats charter. I guess Jetlines didn't get the CFL contract this year?

The WS strike is over: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calga...ions-1.7251357

Today's departure count: 82

Today's cancellation count (so far): 5 - two are WS and one is merely a flight number swap on an AC YYZ departure

The hit to YOW’s pax count will be mild compared with western airports.

The repositioning Rouge flights to YQB scheduled this winter at odd times to rotate a second frame in/out of YOW for the Sunday-Tuesday schedule has been switched to more reasonable times through YUL.

AC1989 YUL 2120-2212 YOW 319 days 6 02NOV24-26APR25
AC1988 YOW 0610-0710 YUL 319 days 3 30OCT24-30APR25

That's a lot more sensible. That Rouge also replaces the DH4 so on day 6 YOW-YUL is only 5x, while on day 2, YUL-YOW is only 5x.

Another Chrono 732 today, this time taking the Redblacks to Winnepeg. Good to know should be a few opportunities to see it this summer.

I'm currently on Porter 168 to YYZ. Pretty light load, but happy it's pretty close to being on time tonight. Majority of people connecting through YYZ or via YOW.
I was one of the only ones taking the single leg to YYZ according to the check-in desk agent.

I have been curious about loads on this flight. Similar timed flight to YTZ as well.

As an aside... LOTS of people with cowboy hats and boots going to stampede in YYC at the terminal today.
