Wow that school restoration is amazing and the riverfront park will be a great addition to downtown. I was just in Cleveland a couple of weeks ago and was telling my gf that they should build a park down on the river there without knowing thats actually what they are doing so thats awesome.

New $1.1 billion Cleveland Hopkins airport terminal will be built on site of current parking garage

Updated: May. 06, 2025
By Susan Glaser, cleveland.com

CLEVELAND, Ohio – A new Cleveland Hopkins International Airport terminal will be built on the site of the current Smart Parking Garage, a $1.1 billion project that is expected to open in 2032.

Renderings of the new terminal feature nods to Lake Erie and Cleveland’s industrial past, plus wide, light-filled spaces -- a dramatic contrast to the cramped, aged airport that travelers experience today.

But before the new terminal, the airport will build a new parking garage on the current Orange Lot, with spaces for 6,000 cars, as well as a new Ground Transportation Center and RTA station. That $301 million project is expected to open in 2029.

That Ohio City hotel is really nice. Who's the architect? Looks like it could be Morris Adjmi.

the architect is dlr group — looks like it will have some terra cotta as well, which is a hot/trendy quality material these days and is exciting:

the stadium issue still seems up in the air, but meanwhile work will begin on calming the shoreway and a land bridge to the lakefront.

Finally! Some progress on lakefront development: The Wake Up for Thursday, May 22, 2025

By Cliff Pinckard
Updated: May. 22, 2025

Cleveland is taking steps to finally transform up to 50 acres along Lake Erie. This summer, the not-for-profit set up by the city will call for developers’ visions for a combination of retail, housing, recreation and public space.

“This project is about reimagining what’s possible for our city,” Mayor Justin Bibb. “It’s about reconnecting Clevelanders to the water, creating an inclusive, vibrant destination that reflects who we are and where we’re going.”

Work is set to begin in 2027 on a $284 million project to remake the Shoreway as a boulevard and create a land bridge over it. The Rock Hall is expanding along its section of North Coast Harbor.

And to tide us over, Cleveland this summer is building a pop-up park on a parking lot north of the Browns stadium, with a temporary basketball court, two pickleball courts, a roller rink, shade coverings and plenty of programming.

New glass bridge opens at Nelson-Kennedy Ledges State Park

Updated: May. 23, 2025
By John Pana, cleveland.com

NELSON, Ohio -- The Ohio Department of Natural Resources celebrated the opening of a new glass walkway at Nelson-Kennedy Ledges State Park with a ribbon-cutting ceremony today, adding a unique feature to one of northeast Ohio’s most distinctive natural areas.

The Falls Edge Glass Walkway stretches 137 feet in an elegant S-shaped design, allowing visitors to walk directly above Sylvan Creek’s gorge with views 50 feet down to the water below. The walkway extends to a point just short of Minnehaha Falls, creating the sensation of floating above the waterfall.

$55 Million Ohio City Hotel Set to Rise on Surface Parking Lot on Lorain Ave.
“It’s a much needed use for this area. There’s not a single full service hotel between downtown and the airport.”

By Lee Chilcote on Wed, Jun 11, 2025

Currently, if you’re looking to stay in Ohio City while visiting the West Side Market, Rock Hall, downtown Cleveland or any other of a host of attractions, your options are limited. You can crash at a nearby Airbnb, but you can’t book a room at a hotel in Ohio City – because there isn’t one. However, that could start to change this year with the construction of the 129-room, seven-story Ohio City Hotel on a surface parking lot at Lorain Ave. and W. 26th St.

The developer behind the project is Dan Whalen, who also developed the $150 million Intro project at W. 25th and Lorain. The parking lot where the project will rise is owned by the nonprofit Ohio City Incorporated, which put out a request for proposals for the site in 2022. The $55 million hotel would include a first-floor eatery, ground-level coffee shop, 4,500 square foot second-level event space, as well as a rooftop restaurant and bar overlooking downtown.

Broker envisions mid-rise residential tower in University Circle

DAN SHINGLER

Rico Pietro, commercial real estate broker and principal with Cushman & Wakefield | CRESCO Real Estate, wants to develop an eight-story building in University Circle with up to 300 apartments, a potentially $100 mil project.

Pietro already owns the site, which currently is the home of Midwest Medical Transport at 10617 Cedar Ave (across the street from Skyline at Stokes).

Pietro said that while he’s open to a sale, he wants to develop it instead.

He's serious about developing it and already has started working with Geis.

“We’ve spent a lot of time and a lot of money figuring out what you could build with 80% of developers for this site,” Pietro said. “A mid-rise building is the just-right approach. It’s a project that’s affordable to build, is easy to underwrite, and it’s a project that will have the absorption a developer needs.”

Pietro is starting by finding potential development partners, investors and continuing to plan the project. He also wants to give his tenant time to plan, but to be ready when their current lease ends in five years.

What is that rendering? The article states the proposed building will be 8 stories, and that rendered building is 12. Also, I was wondering where those nice historic buildings are in the background and foreground, as I don't remember seeing anything like them in University Circle. Looking at an aerial from Google Maps, there are no historic buildings around other than the Tudor Arms hotel on Carnegie. Street view shows it's a mix of ugly one story industrial, a massive parking garage, and some vacant lots.

I'm glad to see more development coming to University Circle, but what a weird and misleading rendering.

^The article is more or less a wishful thinking press release and the rendering is AI.
