It's true, the lake is pretty much frozen over. I think it's the most ice since 1998. We just spent 3 weeks below freezing. Finally today was warmer, 5.4 degrees.

It's mind-blowing that despite Global Warming, North America continues to see record-breaking cold, ice, and snow events, while Europe's winters are becoming increasingly mild and insignificant. The Polar Vortex seems to have a crush on North America and Northeast Asia, while completely snubbing Europe

^ Somewhat symbolic I think?

It's sunny in Vancouver today, with a high of about 11°C at YVR.

-6C with a wind chill of -11 and mainly cloudy. Only 2 degrees below normal today. I am impressed...

Low of -15C (wind chill of -18) this morning. Some sun early on.

The warmspot was White Rock, BC at 13.6C.

Warmest low was Sisters Island, BC at 7.8C.

Windsor made to 7C today. The mild needs to arrive here ASAP.

Compared to Europe, North America seems like an alien world :fuggire:

There's still so much fucking snow around. A little over one week until I'm in Portugal for two. I'm rarely this eager to leave.

-7C and light snow in Moncton at 8 AM. Snow will continue all day and tonight. Perhaps 7-8 cm total expected. It will be worse in NS. About 25 cm expected in Halifax.

They've just issued a yellow alert warning for us - 15-20 cm of snow now expected.

It's mind blowing that we still only consider 'global warming' as the only condition climate change that's going on. What's actually should be considered is more intense weather patterns, more rapid shifts between extremes. More extreme snow events, more and stronger hurricanes, more tornadic weather in the plains, etc.

Once the 'Great Lakes' freeze over the lake effect snow patterns disappear. They are the cause of a lot of early winter huge snow events downwind of the shorelines. Lake Erie despite being relatively south freezes more often than other lakes due to its shallow depth.

Great point, feepa. I totally agree with you; it’s as if the atmosphere has 'more energy to burn,' leading to these wild swings. But the problem for cold-weather fans like me—and pretty much everyone here in Italy—is that in Europe, we’re seeing the other side of the coin. While you’re dealing with record-breaking ice on the Great Lakes, we’re experiencing an almost 'non-existent' winter with temperatures way above average. It’s the same disrupted Jet Stream, it just hits us differently: you get the super cold snaps, and we get super mild winters with snow only at staggering altitudes

Oh yeah, absolutely! We Italian weather geeks are always dazed—it’s like a total 'weather orgasm'—witnessing the beauty of those massive Lake Effect Snow events that kiss American cities like Buffalo, Rochester, Cleveland, and Syracuse. The sheer intensity of those snow bands is just mind-blowing for us!

I'd say winters are getting noticeably warmer and dryer here as well, apart from a cold December, the rest of this winter has been very mild. Looks like a dip back into the cold to end the month though, -20 is going to feel brutal after hitting +20 last week!

-3C with a wind chill of -9 and overcast. We actually made to average (dare I say even a degree above). However that came at a cost. About 10 more cm accumulation overnight.

Low of -8C (wind chill of -15) this morning. Was snowing still.

The warmspot was Pitt Meadows and Agassiz, BC at 11.7C.

Warmest low was Cumshewa Island, BC at 6.6C.

This is my dream job, having the city all to himself in the middle of the night and playing in the snow, I have a feeling Tancredi applied for the same job

Feb 11, 2026 - Snow in Montreal. My GIF posting site is giving me issues this evening, so here is a 20 second video.

A dream job in Montreal
