It’s because these residences are actually getting built by a private developer with McMaster being the tenant.

That's a good pick. Probably one of their most famous alumni in the political world. Provincially, at least.

They've started to remove the plywood coverings over the doors and windows. So I'm guessing they are preparing for demolition, at least the interior demo.

Drove by the other day and it was odd to see the empty spaces. But I'm glad they're finally getting it done -- with winter arriving the odds of another fire or incident related to people living in the houses illegally would be high.

Seems there's nothing left. Odd temporary view of McMaster children's hospital.

Now McMaster is waiting on city permits to begin construction, aiming to finish in 2026. The hall will ensure all first-year students can live on campus in their first year, Van Koughnett said.

Construction to start on Lincoln Alexander Hall

https://dailynews.mcmaster.ca/worthm...lexander-hall/

Construction is set to begin on McMaster’s 15th residence building Lincoln Alexander Hall. Construction is expected to start on November 1st, 2023 and welcome students to their new home in the Fall of 2026.

Located on Main Street West between Dalewood Avenue and Forsyth Avenue, the 1,366-bed building should allow McMaster to guarantee all first-year students a space in residence.

As of Monday, October 16th, 2023, the sidewalk surrounding the construction site on Dalewood Avenue, Traymore Avenue, and Forsyth Avenue will be closed for the duration of the construction project. Signs will direct pedestrians to other sidewalks, while the Main Street West sidewalk remains open.

McMaster is working closely with the construction partners to prioritize safety and ensure minimal disruptions to the neighbourhood. This includes careful consideration of noise, dust, construction traffic and the safety of pedestrians near the site.

Main website for Lincoln Alexander Hall:

https://facilities.mcmaster.ca/lincolnalexanderhall/

Did you guys want me to change the title to include Lincoln Alexander Hall or keep the address? I doubt I can fit both in the title.

Perhaps an abbreviated address? Something like
Lincoln Alexander Hall (1190 Main W) | 58m | 15+10 fl | U/C

Awesome to see this start construction. this thing is an absolute beast - don't get fooled by the relatively short height. It's probably behind only 41 Wilson for size in terms of development proposals in the city right now (well, that and Eastgate Mall).

There's that massive proposal on George and Hess that is probably bigger than Wilson. Not sure when or if that thing gets built though.

Less units total. Plus a lower likelihood that gets started anytime soon. We're probably 1-2 years away from that breaking ground at least.

As a McMaster alum I'm very excited to see this get started and see the University continue to grow. I'm hoping they can work on improving their walkability of the campus too where there is currently quite a bit of asphalt. McMaster could really become a very polished jewel of Hamilton, especially with LRT running to it.
