I think the spot for a viewing tower would be near the south end of the Cambie Bridge.
That would provide the iconic city and mountain view in an area without taller highrises.
Then maybe they could ditch the City Hall view cone!

That viewing tower at QE Park would have been neat.

What if, you made it so that the Ferris wheel served the function of that envisioned elevator between bridge deck and ground level? Not sure if that's even physically possible. lol

Imagine how sick it would be if the Granville Street Bridge went through the centre of the Ferris Wheel that would be so sick.

Woah woah there. Thats a whole lotta creative thinking.

Stuff like that which may be a tourist attraction and draw people down to the area is not allowed round these parts.

This sounds like one of those genie jokes.

Granville Island: City, can you build us an elevator tower straight through the middle of the bridge?
City: No, that's ridiculous.
GI: Well then can you build us a giant centreless wheel around it?
City: Hold on, let's go back to the elevator...

That's why we are a no-fun city.

With such complacent attitudes, that's why we need to keep relying on foreign property investment money that you despise so much.

Imagine how cool it would be if the Ferris wheel carried passengers from Granville Island to the Bridge. This idea seems epic. Nice idea Chikin.

Can we all go to the meeting to support/propose this? We can be the Ferris Wheel lobby. Maybe each of us can lean over and link hands to form wheels?

You become a fun city by adding entertainment and food districts, and removing unnecessary "bah humbug" rules. Tourist traps are just desperate, unnecessary distractions.

An observation wheel makes sense. Something for Granville Bridge makes sense. An observation wheel for Granville Bridge? Even Disneyland's engineers won't touch that.

How pathetic and sad that people think being stuck on a ferris wheel for 30 minutes to watch scenery you could have got a better perspective on from Grouse Mountain is world class fun. I go to London a couple times a year and have never set foot on the London Eye, I can't imagine a bigger waste of money.

And take a good look at the outrages cost just to take a gondola ride to the top of Grouse Mountain is these days. And also note that the perspective from the mountain is nothing you get from a localized high point within a city center. I know!!!! I've been to 80 countries and I always go to the observation points in cities to get a great close up perspective.

The View from harbour tower is great but I think something south of downtown or downtown south would be a great view too.

And Grouse only gives you a bird's eye southward view of the city... and takes half an hour to get to just by driving from downtown. A northward view would be a nice attraction for local and tourists alike.

That said, the elevator suggestion makes much more sense given the lack of space on the Island itself. Any observation wheel'd be better off at Vanier. Maybe NEFC or Robson Square - a view from within the city itself.

I'm sure we have a city full of planners and councilors who would totally agree with you.

And I'm also pretty sure Disney did not build this too......because how can they? Let the professionals on the other side of the world do their job.

Visitors and tourists can choose to spend their money all they want. If the ferris wheels are attracting the visitors and making money for the city, what capacity or right do you have to disagree of their existence?

Say what you just said here to the people in Montreal, Singapore, London, etc, and I will have the gratification of seeing others laugh at you and shaking their heads at the same time.
