Could have replace La Quinta on 11th St with this museum.

Doesn't the new state building at MLK and Congress have space designated for a museum that needs funding to finish out the space? I seem to remember hearing something about a Texas Music Museum.

With the state history museum and Blanton both at that intersection as well, it could be the makings of a museum district.

I don’t believe a space for a museum was ever built out-the Texas Music Museum idea was nixed in the state legislature.

Dunno, something about the daughters of the republic of texas is icky to me. I think it's better to keep it away from the officially sanctioned museums. People would otherwise assume that whatever they choose to curate there has something to do with official state government (for better or worse).

The Daughters of the Republic of Texas have nothing to do with the government. All 3 of my daughters are members as we are related to the Burleson family, who fight at the Alamo. And we definitely have nothing to do with government. It is just based on who you are related to.

Daughters of the Republic are similar to the Daughters of the Confederacy—not an affiliation I’d care to highlight as the primary motivation for both wars was to preserve slavery.

My sisters are Daughters of the American Revolution—which is definitely something to tout.

You mean Daughters of the American Slave-Holding Revolution?
That one?

I happen to think being a Daughter of the Republic of Texas is something to be very proud of and should be celebrated. Very cool of you to encourage your daughters to be proud of their heritage. And those who think otherwise can go jump in lake!

Yep. Daughters of the Republic are cool. I'm a son of the Republic, but have never gone through the application process. My ancestors didn't fight in the war, but moved to Texas in 1837. I might look into it again.

Actually, my ancestors settled in what is now the Bastrop area in 1837. Guess who helped get some men/boys together to fight the raiding Comanche? General Burleson. My g-g-g-grandpa and his brother fought in all of those scrapes alongside Burleson, Hays, Bigfoot Wallace and all of those other famous names. The brother is buried in Devine and has a Texas State historical marker on his grave. He was one of the original Rangers. My g-g-g-grandpa was also a Ranger in those early days, but left to be a deputy of Caldwell County.

Another line of ancestors dates back to crossing into KY with Boone and living at Fort Harrod. My ancestor is actually a headless ghost story at Fort Harrod to this day.

Every time I pass the folks at the Georgetown Square trying to "educate" people about the value of the Confederate statue in front of the courthouse, my wife has to drag me along so I don't try to remind them about the Lost Cause and other revisionist history in the American South thanks to the Daughters of the Confederacy.

But back to the topic at hand....
I don't think that museum looks all that bad from an architectural standpoint. I've seen worse.

I am constantly amazed at little projects that I either didn't know about or forgot about that are popping up all over East Austin. Every time I drive through I'm surprised by something new. Super cool to see increasing levels of density.

Does anyone have info on what's planned to be built at the intersection of Cesar Chavez and Pleasant Valley? There are empty lots on both the northwest and northeast corners and both are fenced off. Asking for a friend of mine who lives a few blocks from there.
