So construction starts this spring seem to be:

1. Television City
2. Design District
3. City Centre (demolition at least)
4. Apex
5. Copps Coliseum Renovations

It's gonna be weird seeing the city center leveled - I was too young to remember when the former eatons center was demolished, although I have seen the videos..

Interesting that they didn't clarify that construction was starting. Just the demolition. Should we assume that means the foundation starts right after?

Ritsman: Yes, I heard that they are.

If he anticipates occupancy will be Spring 2027, then I have to believe they start work on construction soon after the demolition.

I'm going to make a wild prediction... occupancy will be no earlier than Spring 2028.

4-5 years for construction? Isn't that quite slow?

so unless they are anticipating issues , why would it take that long.

Mac at Bay and King, just 1.5 years (below from July 27 2021)

Edit: here's a couple pics. They're going quickly. I thought it was interesting how far they are from King St here. Looks to be around 10 metres or more?

Cobalt had a lot of issues in excavation which slowed it down a lot. Typical construction time for a project of this scale would be in the 3.5 year range once shoring is underway.

Cutting underground parking speeds projects up a lot - which is why McMaster went quicker. They only had one basement level. It's the same reason Design District should fly up, it doesn't even have a basement level. it will just be slab-at-grade then start rising.

Television City's parking is all underground so this will likely be more like 3.5 years to completion once shoring rigs are on site.

Former Eatons store? There was only the department store building and a parking garage on the City Centre site before the new mall was built in 1990 or '91.

I say former eatons because the city center was the "new" eatons center - sorry shouldn't have said "center" I shoulda said former "eatons" dept store - sorry for the confusion. Obv. yes I know that.

construction permits now filed here in addition to demolition:

Quote:
APPLICATION FOR FOUNDATION PERMIT ONLY Construction of foundation only for mixed use building comprised of ground floor commercial space, 2 x 32-storey residential towers complete with 5 levels of parking below grade.

APPLICATION FOR SHORING/EXCAVATION PERMIT ONLY Construction of foundation only for mixed use building comprised of ground floor commercial space, 2 x 32-storey residential towers complete with 5 levels of parking below grade.
Also - at 5 levels of underground, I believe this would be the deepest garage in the city.
