A Dorechester or Crillon hotel would be nice here.

Related Companies to build 1,200-foot skyscraper on Madison Avenue

By Steve Cuozzo
July 14, 2024

Quote:
Related Companies plans to build a supertall skyscraper on Madison Avenue rising to 1,200 feet, Related CEO Jeff Blau revealed to Realty Check.

The cloudbuster comprising luxury condos, stores and perhaps a hotel will rise at 625 Madison Ave., a property that includes next-door 39 E. 58th St., former home of restaurant Lavo.

Although Related’s desire for a new building was previously reported, its enormous scale was not known until now.
Quote:
The new supertall can be built “all as of right,” Blau said – apparently meaning it required no zoning changes or city land-use review.

Blau spoke to The Post after last week’s historically momentous, but not entirely surprising, departure of Related founder and chairman Stephen M. Ross to launch a new development company in South Florida.

He didn’t have images of the 625 Madison plan to share yet.

We have nine months of demolition ahead first,” he said.

It’s hard to know when they say these things if that 1200 is in fact 1200, or a little above or below. I do wish we at least knew what firm will be working on the design.

It will be the same height as the St. Regis in Chicago.

Demolition permit was approved a couple of days ago, so when they're good to go, they're good to go.

This new tower will sit across from (or behind) the GM building and its popular plaza, about 500 ft taller...

Related’s Madison Avenue skyscraper comes into focus
Tower at 625 Madison Avenue slated to reach 1.2K feet

JUL 15, 2024

Quote:
The developer’s plans at 625 Madison Avenue, which it picked up in December from SL Green for more than $600 million, will rise 1,200 feet, the New York Post reported.

The Real Deal previously reported the Manhattan high-rise will include retail, a hotel and condos, with luxury hotel and retail brands already in talks for the coming project.

Relate CEO Jeff Blau told the Post the property does not require zoning changes, but is facing “nine months of demolition ahead.”

1,200 feet near Central Park, nice

I wonder if the height is approximate / it could end up higher. May as well take advantage of such a location.

Great news.

I actually thought this would be somewhat taller. Hoping there's a crown to bring it a little higher, more around 1,400 ft., like 432 Park and 111 W.57 heights.

But even at 1,200 ft., this will be a major skyline presence. And given the ultra-prime location, likely a major architectural statement.

I'm also wondering if 650 Madison is next. That's another outdated tower, in the same neighborhood, where a developer has been emptying the office space of tenants, and where you could build a residential or residential-hotel supertall as-of-right.

650 will rise in time. I can't imagine anything but a 1000+ show stopper.

NYC will have 100 supertalls in my lifetime.

The march continues apace.

Don't know what firm is working on the design, but whatever rises here, together with 41 W. 57, will make the Billionaire's Row ensemble more interesting.

Of course, there will be great views.

The scaffolding is going up quickly. Related isn’t wasting any time with respect to NY’s newest, supertall icon!
