I know it's hard to see but here are the original pediments:

but because its similar to the treble hall and the dundas building it would appear the originals look like them as well

I say we petition to restore the façade of his building back to what it used to look like, using those 2 buildings for reference, and have a metalworker restore the Corinthian column tops while they are at it - respect the character of these original designs!
Your use of raped here is so out of order. Please be mindful of word choice and find a better way to articulate your disdain with the cosmetics of a building.

Words only have the meaning you give and associate to them - aka you can only be offended by a word if you choose to be - words can have several meanings - not just the one you associate it with - that term has often be used to describe buildings who have not been respected and have been violated - thus the definition still stands - but very well - "destroyed" or "vastly inferior quality" may be a better term.

Pretty sure everyone here understood what I meant though.

The company re-developing this will probably invite you to create a crowd-fund to pay for that.

I do hope they apply some dark paint to the light parts on the second floor that stick out so much. But on the whole it's shaping up (remember the abomination the first floor used to be? It has a much better street presence with the new windows) and having this be a "living" part of the core again will be very nice.

I would be MORE than happy to.

I am a bit iffy on the ALL black motif - in certain lighting it just makes it impossible to see any detail at all - I think the lack of the corinthian gold column heads makes it lack a little bit of contrast on the bottom half.

also here's a little cool little info blurb about the building: https://downtownhamilton.org/wp-cont...nsor-Hotel.pdf

A business called "Cafe Colonnade" has applied for a liquor license here. Can't seem to find out anything about the business online.

I can't WAIT to go inside this building, I have never been inside it in its past lives and with the new windows itll look pretty cool

I am usually around this area as I love to go to Capri as well which is just across the street.

I was out and about in the city and walked past here today. I was fortunate enough to speak with someone who I believe to be the owner.

They had expected to be open by now but due to delays with trades etc they are behind are now expecting September/October.

The resturant is to be called foundry Collande it is slated to be a mix of Mediterranean styles of food. Includes a secret rooftop patio a 100 seat wrap around patio. The will use several floors for the restaurant which will also include event space. No apartments but will have some offices on one of the floors (top floor I would guess)

Ooooh A multi-floored restaurant? We don't have enough of those.. I still wish theyd do more with the upper floors of the exterior of the building as this building was originally quite grand looking but at least they restored the first floor

Oh we have a few - HamBRGR on Ottawa St. seats people on two floors, Electric Diner on George St. does too. Capri Pizza does something similar.

I totally forgot about that Hambrgr! i went there like 5 years ago and never again since we've got one within walking distance.

I did not know Capri had a second floor, but tbh we went there once and it was terrible and it was deserted. I did forget about Electric Diner, though again, only been inside once, and every time after that outside and the new one is closer to our house.

Moody's also has upstairs Arcade which is kind of part of the restaurant now.

The Ship is also two floors. The new and old Radius as well. Shoeless joes on upper james and of course dundurn mcdonalds.

The blue grotto second floor at Capri is worth the price of admission.

Hmm interesting, I've only ever been on the first floor of capri - although I am saddened they "modernized" it after having to make the renovations to take the kitchen off the back so cobalt could take up that entire space..

Thanks, that is a massive amount of time to carry a building /reno without any cashflow . Hope it finally comes together , especially with the KWrentals soon to be opened up.
