I rarely see hummingbirds perched. I wouldn't have noticed this one if not for its distinct chirp.
The poor trees are confused. An almost complete lack of subzero temperatures this winter has them thinking spring is around the corner. We'll see freezing temps in a couple of days.
Poking (barely) above freezing for a couple days before 4 days of extreme cold followed by at least another week of below normal temps. Getting some serious winter this year, I just booked plane tickets to Florida, but not going until March.

Well yesterday was interesting. Had wind and snow squall warnings all day but the Squalls were quite uneventful. and the wind didn't pick up until around 5pm.
And then hell froze. temps were +5 and light wind and then in a few minutes temps dropped, wind picked up and snow flurries started. By 10pm winds were gusting up to and above 70KPH and we had about 4 cm of snow. Morning temps were -10 so roads were quite fun under the new snow. And I had a small snow drift in my yard. first one in years. Temps are dropping to -22 tonight. -27 tomorrow. then rise again to 0 by Tuesday.

The polar vortex is descending! shouldn't be too bad in Calgary, lowest temp in the forecast is -22 overnight Sunday, then back above freezing by Tuesday. Got super windy last night, lots of tree branches down in my area.
+2C tomorrow, and +7C on Sunday. The ass end falls out of her by next Tuesday when the polar vortex arrives.
Still no snowstorms on the horizon. This takes us out to January 23rd. By that point, winter will be nearly half over.

EC has issued a special weather statement for Sunday night into Monday as the polar vortex arrives. The +7C temperatures on Sunday will be accompanied by rain, but, as the cold front rolls through Sunday night, the rain will quickly turn to snow (perhaps over 25 cm ) and strong winds causing blizzard like conditions.

I’m always curious to where you get your forecast. It’s always 2 or 3 degrees colder than mine for Vancouver or Abbotsford via my IPhone, and the EC and Weather Network forecasts.
They are just from Google, perhaps they are an average for the city.

Your forecast seems to be a near match for what I get for Burnaby Mountain. Do you live in the Como Lake area or a similar higher elevation?
Today is a great example, your forecast says a high of 4, but YVR and Abbotsford were 6, Pitt Meadows was 7.4 (hourly reading) and White Rock was 8.

No, Mt. Pleasant, elevation about 100ft. I am surprised, usually it is closer; but as I mentioned today, it was actually reading about 8C at my place, while the thing I posted said it was 2C.
Saw the tree stump and thought you were in my neighbourhood, but it's a different one.
Arborist doing the fall season assessment. In front of my building, the orange cone is still nailed to it (since October), maybe wait until it rots a bit for an easier removal?
