Perhaps their leasing agency is part of the problem. I tried reaching out to them multiple times and never got a response.

How is 90 Alexander fairing? I read a few days ago that they were having problems leasing it which seems strange as it is in a good location, has a modern design and downtown is not that bad depite what some posters think.

I went into the show suite and had a look. They seem modern and efficient so the issue must be price or lack of parking.

I really hope it leases up…

The good news is the project is finished and will not languish as a failed attempt at downtown housing…

There have been a few delays. The first tenants were supposed to move in on Sept 1st, but an email went out at the last minute stating that they were having issues getting an occupancy permit. This upset a lot of people... for good reason. It was an entire month before the first tenants moved in. The building is also still incomplete. I think the first few floors are available, but the other units won't be available until Jan 1st. No word on the CRU's, but the derelict wharf is an eyesore (supposedly plans are afoot), and the homeless encampments don't help either.

Anecdotal, but I know one person who was all set to move in to it until the occupancy delay came up, at which point they bailed and found another apartment elsewhere.

With how this project is going, I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic or not lol.

I was at City Hall this morning for a Wpg 150 reception.

We were provided with a salutation / certificate from the Mayor to honour my mother’s 100th birthday.

She remembers as a little girl, blocks of ice from the Red River delivered to her home by horse & wagon.

On my walk that way it does appear caissons / piles have commenced on the westerly boundary of the Market Lands site…

A crawler crane was being assembled as well.

Very hopeful news.

Im a student at RRC next door and saw people milling about on site for several hours, there appears to be quite a lot being done.

Earlier, in nov/dec there was barely a peep, and hardly any equipment on site, so this seems to be ramping up.

Did I hear correctly on the news that there will be single room units renting for ~600 a month?
Is that the going price these day? Sounds like a deal to me, but ive been paying mortgage since the late 90s lol.

Marketlands Inc. owns the entire parking lot. I don't believe it was ever subdivided and put up for sale. Marketlands Inc. is a joint venture between UWCRC 2.0 and Centre Venture.

News article is here:
https://winnipeg.ctvnews.ca/new-deve...tion-1.6739061

In the interview, the CEO of UWCRC 2.0 mentions that the first building (95 units of mixed-income housing and a "Cultural Hub" home to 4 arts organizations) is the first of 3-4 phases for the overall development of the Public Safety Building lands. The "middle section" is being developed currently. This is being called phase 1 and is expected to be complete in about 2 years. The second phase of construction, which includes a building centered around food is expected to be completed 6 months after the first phase.

This was bugging me so i searched around and yes indeed that is the starting price. I cant see you getting that much at that price point but it sure would sell out fast.

So whereas one-bedroom apartments rent for about $1,300 a month in downtown Winnipeg, Market Lands' suites will rent as low as $600 per month.

The portion of the site under construction (the south end on the right in the photo) is where the Market Lands Apartments and Market will go. The northern portion (everything to the left of the piling rigs in the photo) is being marketed to private developers.

The first round of proposals was unsuccessful to my understanding. In recent conversations I have had with people involved, it seems like there may be something positive upcoming for what would essentially be two parcels.

Interesting. A couple nice mixed use towers would be awesome there. Maybe something geared towards student residences for the College?
