I believe they had a hand in the Sprouts development on Piedmont. That's better than almost anything else in the vicinity.

But yes, Madison Yards is a C or a D. Not a feather in Fuqua's cap.

Permitting for the Westside Walmart (on MLK) conversion to a neighborhood market is moving forward.

Planning permit filed for zoning verification for an affordable housing development at 1175 McDonald on the southside Beltline. A lot of new development in this area where Milton crosses the Beltline near DH Stanton Park.

Yikes, this echoes the Honewood Suites/HGI project on 10th. I am less hostile towards that project than most on here, but I would really prefer such a visible piece of land to get an aesthetically pleasing development rather than a cookie cutter infill hotel.

I just know it'll be ugly as heck, like 90% of all these hotel developments. My fingers are crossed though.

Not sure if construction is starting, but something is going on with the next phase of Tech Square. Some equipment is on site, and they're digging at the corner of West Peachtree and Biltmore Place.

At the groundbreaking ceremony that was almost one year ago now, they said that the buildings were scheduled to open by 2025. So they are probably looking to get started pretty soon.

The rest of midtown should learn something from the street level connectivity and integration of tech square, but alas more 10 level parking podiums are on the horizon...

The site plan is visible on a small graphic on the link to the architect site. About a third of the site will be open facing the Biltmore. It is not clear if this will be a plaza or reserved for a future expansion, however I would argue if they are building green space/plaza, we would see some rendering. They would showcase this as developers do. I suspect they are saving that land for a future expansion. They will probably build a parking lot there or make it a grass field.

Found this on Facebook re: Tech Square phase three. Someone talked to the project manager on site:

The loud drill being used this week is to drill down 50-60 feet to make sure there is not hard rock that they will need to explode out before digging. And, they are laying temporary electrical lines for the trailers for the management and staff of the project. Then, the real work starts, and will take two years.

I think at least part of that space is an open area with trees. "The gathering space aligns axially with a treed and shaded exterior terrace with a bosque of trees for year-round use and creative recreational programs."

Kind of visible in the background here:

Apparently The Local is staying open and renovating. Maybe that Portman project is on hold? I wonder what this means for their other projects, like Amsterdam Walk.

Here's the Urbanize article
https://atlanta.urbanize.city/post/p...ans-first-look
Quote:
Mike Greene, Portman’s senior vice president of development, tells Urbanize Atlanta that Portman’s three-building development ambitions for where Ponce de Leon Avenue meets the BeltLine in Virginia-Highland are being scaled back. Challenging financing markets are to blame, according to Greene.

The Local is planning a 180-degree switch of previous plans to sell and bow out, announcing candidly on social media it was “just kidding” about closing and will remain in operation on Ponce.

It’s possible, Greene said, that all previous plans will be scrapped, while still abiding by restrictions set by the city during a recent rezoning process. The full project could become residential with retail at the base, on a smaller scale, Greene said

736 Peachtree St land development permit was just issued and all fees paid. This one will probably be starting soon.

Unpopular opinion incoming. I like this tower. The block long skinny tower is pretty cool, and three being side-by-side is interesting. I hope something similar goes up on the lot diagonal to this one where a parking lot stands.

Seems like decent infill even though it's one of the shorter towers to be built in midtown in the past few years at only 19 stories. The street level intersection along Peachtree seems like it will be good.
