Good stuff in the last two posts.

I did look at the units for rent on realtor.ca for Aqualuna and was taken aback by the "six foot wide" living room. Surely not all units are this compressed but, still more overvalued, barely livable closets even in a building that stands out as luxurious.

There's a building in Ontario with a fritted glass facade showing an historical building that used to stand there.. Can anyone help me find the building?

Well, there is this the building at 1 Grosvenor Street in Toronto, called IMMIX Condos, which has a ghost facade at its podium of a former hire hall.

I recall there's another project that incorporates this ghost facade technique too, maybe in Kitchener or London. (And I think there's an example of this in BC as well)

Here's the Kitchener example..

Yeah, I don't think he means the line drawing on Yonge but, rather the imposed building image on Young

Another Toronto example is occupied by an LCBO on Queen West. The image of the burned down building is imprinted on perforated metal panels.

Le Fitz in Lévis (suburb of Québec City)

490 Apartments

Levis is the headquarters of Assurances Desjardins, and over 2,000 new jobs will be created with Davie Shipbuilding by next year, right next door to the project.

Some great shots by Marcadian of the new U/C Alpen Fury Coaster at Canada's Wonderland last weekend. It's projected to be open by the Victoria Day weekend as we finish installing most of the last sections this week and start testing the ride. It's insane how they've managed to intertwine this coaster with existing rides.

A few Halifax updates from Developments HFX:

North End. The red crane is for a 20 storey tower. Tall for the area.

More North End

Dartmouth bridge area visible from Halifax waterfront. There are many 20-40 storey towers under construction in that area, with some in the site prep phase now. Foreground has the HMCS Sackville, a WW2 corvette. Behind that is the Acadia, a WW1 era ship.

Marlstone, residential on one of the existing tower expansion spots that are part of the Scotia Square complex. Behind, the glassy towers are the Nova Centre, and far right is a more or less complete tower on Cogswell Street with mixed hotel rooms and apartments.

This one shows a ~26 storey tower on Quinpool Road that's far behind the foreground. There's a 3x30 storey development that's supposed to start in the next year or two next to it, so it'll pop up in about the same spot.

Press Block looks good. Varied, well-scaled. Barrington could take its crown back from Spring Garden over time, particularly as the latter is becoming seedy and filled with people behaving in antisocial ways.

Barrington changed in a very positive way in the 2010's but the 2020's have been a miss so far. It has had a lot of seemingly good development but then some very prominent storefronts have been empty (like in the Roy; owners holding out for high end tenants?). Some landlords do a better job than others at managing tenants. The developers of Press Block, Dexel, have a good track record of finding and keeping interesting tenants and I am hopeful some good businesses will move in. Design-wise Dexel's projects keep getting better and better.

The residential population around Barrington continues to grow and there are large projects like Meridian, which will have around 1,000 new residents. In the past Barrington was on the border of the 9-5 office district and that affect its vibrancy. Cogswell will probably also be a boost to Barrington as it will no longer be a dead end.

I like the little area around the Grand Parade and Province House. It has some truly great buildings like the Bank of NS and it had a medium scale with solid sandstone architecture. Press Block reinforces that, as did Queen's Marque and the TD tower reno. With a few tweaks of the public spaces around there and another comparable project around the base of George St it would be a great area.

Must be close to 1000 feet now. I wonder if they will mark it with a ceremony? Or will they wait until it tops out?

One Yonge starting to dominate the waterfront.

It would be nice if the Westin Harbour Castle could do something with the south end of the podium. I actually love the old pomo architecture, how many Canadian cities have one of these? Quebec City, Vancouver, Ottawa, any I've missed? Even just a simple Mural would be nice. Perhaps when they start work on the new Jack Layton Ferry Terminal. I'm surprised nothing has happened with it yet.

From this angle, it's crazy to think it will be as tall as the bottom of the CN Towers Observation deck.

Harbour Castle podium is a bunker built when this part of the waterfront was an undesirable declining industrial/ storage area. It needs a major rethink/rebuild. As far as I know, the owner instead desires to plop another tall skyscraper on it.

1000 feet is above the penthouse level. It'll be at 1000 feet when 1/3 of the crown is in place.

A new graphic, with updated numbers. It appears to be at 298 metres, the old, unconfirmed, height of FCP:

Alpen Fury finished vertical construction a few days ago, they should be testing the launch vehicles by the end of this week, with the public getting its first ride on the Canada Day Long Weekend.
