It's amazing that what I've been thinking of as the 6X/Republic realignment of the skyline (our tallest buildings centered around Republic Square) isn't actually the end of the story. In any other city that'd be a generational skyline shift. But we may actually swing back to the convention center district with the Railyard (and the Brazos and 4th block, which, if Railyard goes, would be a shoe-in for another BBVA-style complement)
Of course -- there's EVEN MORE yet to go. Thinking about the other lots that could open up in the next few years -- I'm thinking Hobby and the State of Texas Garage, along with the Post Office, which will have to pop at some point -- we could see another re-realignment back to Republic Square.
And any of this, in another city, would be total Sim City speculation. Stuff you game out on a napkin in a bar. But saying that we could see something like this transpire over the next decade here in Austin seems not only possible, but probable. It's nutso crazy, I tellya.
